Don't let your past failures or your fear of failure hold you back from taking action and living your best life. In this episode, you will learn: 1. What are the things that prevent us from taking action and moving from theory to practice? 2. What are the rewards of taking action and executing your plans? 3. How do you balance the two out just a little bit?"Most surprisingly though, success is a common fear. What happens if our lofty plans succeed? Will that change us? Will it be enough to satisfy us? What comes next? After that? What will people expect from us if we actually achieve something?"I'm Brent, and today I want to talk about balancing theory versus practice. A lot of us get stuck in the planning and theorizing phase because we're afraid of failure, doubt our abilities, or are too comfortable. We might also enjoy learning and planning so much that we never take action. Perfectionism, worrying about other people, and bad experiences can also hold us back. And sometimes we think it's too late to act on our plans. But if we don't take action, we'll never reach our full potential. In this episode, you will learn the following:1. What are the things that prevent us from taking action and moving from theory to practice?2. What are the rewards of taking action and executing your plans?3. How do you balance the two out just a little bit?Resources:The Phoenix Men's Conference
https://www.thefallibleman.com/thephoenixChapter Summaries:[00:00:00] - The Fallible Man podcast is hosted by Brent. The first half of the show is about theory, and the second half is about the rewards of taking action and executing your plans. The show will wrap it up with balancing the two out just a little bit.[00:00:37] - The Fall of man podcast is about how men can reach their potential and grow into the men they dream of being while taking care of their responsibilities, working and being good husbands, fathers, and still take care of themselves. Brent explains why men are afraid of success and self doubt.[00:02:52] - Comfort is the enemy of action. Most successful people learn to embrace temporary discomfort if it helps them get to long-term gains. Taking action, especially if it's a major or new action, often includes some level of discomfort. Maybe you want to get in better shape, but there's going to be some physical discomfort.[00:04:21] - Some people enjoy planning, learning, theorizing and researching a lot. They might not enjoy putting the plan into action. It's fun to research and to look into, but you have to get moving. Fun can be an absolute derailment from where you want to go and achieve in your plan.[00:06:53] - Some people get caught up in the myth of perfectionism and worry about other people's opinion. Mr. Beast is one of the biggest YouTubers in the world, but his first videos were messy and bad. He was afraid to start a podcast because he was afraid of their opinion. Worrying about other people interferes with getting to the action phase and locks you into the theorizing planning phase. Worrying is never going to benefit you, and it's not going to make your life better, so you need to work on getting out of that.[00:12:33] - Most of us have had bad experiences in the past, and we let them define our current life. If you have big dreams and plans in your past and then failed, you might be a little gun shy to try it again. You have to stop letting bad experiences define you and hold you in that planning theorizing zone.[00:14:35] - There are eight reasons why people don't act on their plans. The most common one is that they worry it's too late. This fear keeps people in the planning phase. In the second half of the show, they will talk about taking action.[00:18:07] - The Phoenix Conference is coming up February 10-11th in Quincy, Washington. Oliver Marcel, Jim Fuller Dai Manuel and David Pasqualone are going to speak at the conference. Tickets are on sale now on wwwfalliblemancom/thephoenix.Support the show

“Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate, so we can buy sh*t we don’t need. We are the middle children of history, raised by television to believe that someday we’ll be millionaires and movie stars and rock stars, but we won’t.”
Did you ever watch the movie Fight Club with Brad Pitt and Edward Norton? If so you may recognize the line, if not, don’t worry, it is not a prerequisite for this episode. For some people the idea that there is wisdom to be had in the movie may seem like a stretch. It was a really interesting movie and men tend to be drawn to it. If you listen to the show, you will know I am a movie nerd and I am always looking to glean what I can from a movie.
Let me be fully transparent, if you have not seen Fight Club and you want to, Spoilers ahead, you may want to come back after you see it. I will not dig deep into the movie, so you don’t need to have seen it, but I don’t want to ruin any plot points because that always pisses me off as an avid movie guy.
Today we are going to dive into this cult classic and pull out 7 proven truths for men who want proven results in their lives. Are you ready to Thrive as a man? This episode will help you!

In the early hours of the morning in Little Rock you encounter a group of men out for a walk. It is still dark, cool and the streets are pretty bare otherwise. It is a strange site, but they aren’t just walking either. Some carry a log together; others bear crawl or push a sled. What are these crazy people doing marching towards the capital building? They are obviously tired and switch out spots periodically, but they are still enthused. There is a strange camaraderie between them that makes you want to join in. What is this and what is it about?
Meet School of Man (or SOM) and their founder Cole Rodgers. This is a place you have to get an invitation to because not just anyone is ready for this. It is a place where they use terms like Integrity, Ethos, Commitment, Dedication; here they challenge men physically, emotionally and mentally. Here you will face your demons and push yourself further than you ever thought possible. If you are put in the work, you may even earn your Phoenix. The journey will change your life forever and you will come away with far more than you ever thought you could. Please don’t mistake this for a gym, it is a school. It is a way of life.
Cole Rodgers started life just like a lot of us do, chasing “the dream” and following other people who were successful. Along the way he got lost in the choices and consequences of said choices; it blew up his life. Things started to change when one person in his life cared enough to speak those words “Cole, you need to Unf*ck yourself”
How about you? Is it time for you to set your path straight? Do you need to make some changes? Do you hear those words speaking to your heart? Today we talk unapologetically with a man on a mission, to reach as many men as possible and help them on their path to the life they were born for.

What is holding you back? What prevents you from your reaching your dreams and the achievements that you long for? This is an honest question and it is very individual usually; there are some universal things that a lot of us struggle with that are poison in your life no matter how you look at it. This is not a holier than thou conversation because we all have work to do in our lives.
I am not here to slap your hand and tell you that you are bad, I am not that much of a hypocrite. I got my own sh*t to work on and no one knows than more than me. There are some disturbing trends as men that just need to go the way of the dodo. Things that are preventing us from reaching our goals and potential as men.
The 7 Bad Habits we talk about on today's show are common issues that hold a lot of us back from that. Some of them may not seem like a problem, but it is amazing how often they are controlling you, not the other way around. You may not be struggling with all of these, but are likely encountering a few. See which ones surprise you and let us know?

On today’s show we are talking about building a resilient foundation for your life so that when the inevitable storms of live rock you like a hurricane you come out on top.
There are always storms in life, It is the very nature of life to have peaks and valleys, there are only lulls for a time. Change is the constant that you can count on.
None of us like difficult times, but it does not change the reality for us. A lot of people have been experiencing this in the last couple of years, the dreaded r0na changed the world as we know it and altered a lot of people’s lives forever.
Businesses were shuttered, lively hoods lost, and jobs gone. The way everyday life worked changed too. The repercussions are still rippling through the waters of life, jobs are still being lost as things get automated, more people are doing more for the same amount so companies can cut overhead.
In all this turbulence and changing landscapes we need solid, resilient foundations that will not move or break no matter what we through at. In this episode we share 5 layers to build a rock solid foundation that will keep you more stable no matter what life throws your direction. We talk about SMART Goals, Perspective, Side Hustles, habits and so much more!

What is it that top executives and entrepreneurs like Tim Ferris, Gary Vaynerchuk and Grant Cardone know that separates them from the rest that you can do too? It’s not the money thing, but it certainly helped them get that and keep it. In fact millions of people have searched for it on YouTube alone.
I sat down with Author, entrepreneur and executive coach Ryan Cote to talk about this simple process that most people don’t do but could. Ryan Cote is the owner of Morning Upgrade, a business dedicated to increasing the awareness of personal development through a blog, podcast, book and morning routine cards. He is also co-owner in his family’s marketing agency and a real estate investor.
We did a Deep Dive into the magic behind morning routines, you may laugh but the most successful people in the world live and swear by their own routine. Ryan talks to us about how to refine your own and make it practical, because not everyone has 2 or 3 hours.
In his own words: "I have no excuse. There's no reason why I can't wake up 30 minutes early before my kids get up and do my morning routine because I know it's important. I know that's the person I am. I know that's what I do. And it feeds me"
