The gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ, His death, burial, and resurrection necessary for salvation. The gospel is the power of God to everyone who believes for entry into the Christian life. But it is also the power of God to everyone who believes for the entirety of the Christian life. What Christ has done for us ignites our Christian life, but it also must be what sustains us through it as well. The gospel is the opportunity to see what God has done for us and to know what He wants us to become.

Part 1 in our brand new series: Pointing to the Purpose. In this series, we are looking at the life of John the Baptist and his purpose of pointing to Christ. From before birth and all through his life, John's purpose was to prepare the way for Christ and point others around him to the Messiah. What can we learn from John's life that will help us be focused on and committed to the same purpose in our own lives? How can we point to the purpose of our lives so that others around us can see the Lamb of God?

In our last lesson in Psalm 119, we examine Scripture as defined as the Word of God, what God has spoken to each of us. We see how the word of God, or His promise to us is connected to His character. We serve a God for Whom it is impossible to lie; therefore, it is impossible to break His promises. The keeping of God's promises are not dependent on our feelings about them but on the character of the One Who made them. Be encouraged by this last look at Psalm 119 to know that you can trust the promises in the Word of God.

How can we look at tragedy, suffering, and heartache in this life and still say that God is right? How can we endure hardship, trials, and testings and still believe that what God has decided is best for us? Psalm 119 describes God's Word as "Judgments" or the things that God has decided and decreed. These verses tell us that God is always right in what He has decided, and even when we may not understand or see how it is right, we can trust and believe that it is right for us.

We revisit our conversation on affliction that was started in Part 5 before moving on to the next word in Psalm 119: commandments, what God has given to us without question and without wavering. We can know that what we have available to us is the very word of God. We answer the questions, "How did we get God's Word?" and "How do we keep God's Word?" A man of knowledge increaseth strength. How valuable is it to know what we believe about God's Word.

Part 5 of Psalm 119 deals with the Scripture as the statutes of God. Statutes are the unchanging, written-in-stone, words of God. Statutes, legally, owe their binding power to the consent of the people. Therefore, God's Word only has power in our lives when we choose to allow it to. Part 5 also talks about affliction and God's purpose for it in our lives. How can we say that affliction is good for us?
