In Episode 8, we chat to Dr Karen Joyce (PhD Geographical Sciences, UQ) She is a Senior Lecturer in remote sensing and GIS at James Cook University. And has been working with spatial science since 1998 across academia, industry, military, and government roles. As a certified remote pilot, she uses a variety of different drones and cameras to collect imagery to map and monitor the environment, particularly coral reefs. Most recently she has used her drone mapping expertise to co-found ‘She Flies’ – a hands-on initiative designed to encourage more women and girls to engage in science, technology, engineering and maths through the world of drones. So enjoy our chat with Karen about drones, STEM education, girls in science and the courses she offers anyone interested in learning more about what drones can do.
