Sylvia, who had pop hits with Boney M, the Blow Monkeys and Pop Will Eat Itself, sung with her father on the university circuit, won a talent competition and was blacklisted following an altercation on Opportunity Knocks, has enjoyed a truly stellar career working with several reggae legends including Lloyd Charmers and Ernest Ranglin and has run her own record label for more than 40 years. In this new edition of Drop Da Biscuit I meet up with DJ team CB the Riddim Man and Indian Ocean aka Colin and Ashok. Colin discusses his prior sound system experience on the west London set the Mighty Dragon and Ashok muses about stints as a broadcaster on the pirate radio station Kiss FM and Namasta Cable TV. Rewind pressure with Dandy Livingstone, the man behind “Rudy a Message”, “Suzanne Beware of the Devil”, “Reggae in Your Jeggae” and “Red Red Wine”. An inadvertent meeting with Shenley Duffus in a St. Anne’s bar led to Ron being introduced to the great Clement Coxsone Dodd and the rest as they say is history. Ron describes how he managed to compile a great photographic library of artists and other Jamaican luminaires that passed through Studio One in the 1990s. it’s a trip.

Tiny’s dad, Freddie Cloudburst, worked residencies at Clouds (Ram Jam, Brixton) and Mr Bees (Bouncing Ball, Peckham), where he hosted the launch party for the release of John Holt’s ‘The Further You Look’ LP. Tiny recalls his early club and party DJ sessions and how the All Stars and Ghetto World Crew sound systems were established before he picked up the Mighty Cloudburst baton. Tiny also gives us an insight into the reggae scenes in Europe and Japan, the Ska-Lavin sessions, Tiny T’s Top Ten @ 10pm and the International Lockdown series. It’s all good.
