ReesSpecht Life was founded in 2012, in the wake of the loss of his son, Richard Edwin-Ehmer Specht (Rees). Their goal is to cultivate kindness and compassion in local communities. To aid in this goal, the foundation provides scholarships, for HS seniors, who demonstrate a commitment to the ideals of Community, Compassion and Respect.

Grief a

Grief and loss during the holidays. The importance of what we do and how what we know can and does save lives. It can affect families in a positive or negative way.

Grief this time of year is very personal to me. With that being said I talk a little bit about it and my feeling in this show.

Drowning has no boundaries, it doesn't discriminate, it is fast and silent it shows up when you least expect it.  Understand this when you think that someone is watching your child, you may be wrong and in the end when a drowning happens no one is watching. Ask yourself who is watching your child?

There is no other time of the year, maybe with the exception of birthdays and the anniversary of the death,  as hard as this time of the year. The time goes so slow, it appears that everyone is happy and you and your loved one has been forgotten.

Nothing can be further from the truth.

Understand that we are here for you if you need us.

Jan Marie Smith is a long time swim instructor-known throughout Colorado for her compassionate caring style of teaching. She began her swimming career as a competitive swimmer going all the way to the Junior Olympics and state competitions, but at the age of seventeen she became a swim instructor for the American Red Cross and has never looked back.

It is estimated that Jan Marie or "Miss Jan" has taught over a thousand children the life-saving skill of swimming, Children throughout Denver, Grand County and Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort. This year alone she certified well over a hundred and fifty Lifeguards all over Colorado for the Red Cross. She has a special connectivity with many of her students and swimming clients, even teaching several generations in some of her families.

Jan Marie is currently certified with the American Red Cross , the Starfish Aquatic Program, and Swim America. She has many other certifications including Lifeguarding, Water Safety Instructor and is a trainer for both of those for the American Red Cross. She is also a CPR/First Aid Instructor.

She is a long-time water movement instructor, certified in water yoga and water cardio. Jan Marie travels the state of Colorado certifying aquatic candidates and professionals imparting her expertise to pools and facilities. Her home base is Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resort and Greenwood Athletic Club in Denver, where she has worked off and on for over 30 years

Does your message attract like a magnet or does it repel like a magnet? Your message is your lifeblood to your overall success. However, no one spends anytime or focus on their message. You want to get better results, then you must spend so much time on the development of your message.

Your message should have a value proposition statement. For example, You help people with X so they can have X.  So what is the problem you solve and what is the value that you bring to the marketplace.

The next part of your message is your STORY.  Your story should have some basic components:

The CALL - Setting up the character who may be you or someone else that is the main focus of your story.

The PIT - This is the lowest of lows. This helps draw in the person to the vulnerability of your story to make them feel as this could happen to them or they have similar experiences.

The SEARCH - Following the PIT we all go on a search for something and we start to find our lessons that we learned, this happens very quickly for some people and someone like me, it has taken over 25 years to get dialed in.

The INNER BREAKTHROUGH - This is what happens in the mind. Like the light bulb goes off.

The OUTER BREAKTHROUGH - You begin to bring this to the surface and find your voice and message based on your life lessons that you have learned.

Leads to CREDIBILITY - As you go to work, your message and voice find a home as people begin to respond more and more and you attract your idea person you want to talk to. You get your message out to the world.

From here you find your proposition statement and the belief that you can solve the problem. As you go layers deeper you find your true WHY. That will blast through all obstacles and roadblocks that stand in your way.

This weeks weekly spotlight is with Katrina van Eyk. She is a passionate swimming teacher, coach, business owner and mum. She runs Regional Swim Clinics, Van Eyk Swim School and School Swimming in Pyramid Hill, Victoria, Australia.

She currently teaches 50-55 children in and around her community on lessons to learn to swim. Working with educational programs not only in her school but the local schools as it is a mandatory program in the schools in Victoria.

Through her three-pronged business strategy, she aims to promote and advocate for water safety, swimming skills and coaching skills for the people of rural and regional Australia.

In this episode I'm going to get on my soap box for a bit and talk about your WHY. When life shows up is your WHY big enough and strong enough to carry you through the storm?

I know many years ago when I first learned about the power behind having a strong WHY in my life. Why I get up and do what I do. My WHY was always around my daughter and how she drowned. What I wanted to do about it.

With that being said it still wasn't BIG enough or STRONG enough to carry me through. I had always developed my WHY to speak to others. It was always about an outcome I wanted in my life. Wishing that people would feel what I was feeling to follow our mission. This never happens.

They will not feel what you feel. They will feel sorry but not get on board with what your about.

I believe that this is the wrong way to look at your WHY. Your WHY should be personal to you, it is from the inside out. It doesn't really speak to anyone but you. It is who you are, what you want to become.

I find what works best is to work it backwards. You know the outcome that you want to get, or the transformation that you wish to take place. Your WHY ls many layers deeper than what you really think.

In order to find it you may be required to go deep into feelings that you have buried deep down inside for a long time.

Fo example my goal is to reduce drowning by 50% by the year 2028 that is a reduction of 2,000 lives saved here in the U.S. and over 180,000 lives saved worldwide every year. But in order to accomplish that goal I have to understand what drives me. That is what is in my head and heart. First off for many years the world told me I wasn't Good Enough, I wasn't Worthy, or even Smart Enough, so I believed all that and blamed my life and all the crap on my daughters drowning. The war I wage is with myself to prove to me that I'm not all those things that the world said I was.

The other part is that when my life is over. I do not want anything unfinished. When I stand there with my daughter, she says Daddy you did a great job. And then my GOD looks and says Job Well Done Faithful Servant. I left it all on the field or should I say in this world I can't take it with me. It is my Legacy. Listen in this episode where I talk about what Legacy means to me .

This is what makes me get up in the morning at 4 am and walk to put in 5 miles before the rest of the world gets their day started. Only a few people can understand this, what's in me, the driving force. But most wish they could do that or find that inside of themselves.

I just made the decision to change my life, to create this lifestyle that will bring about change. To have that push me to change the world and reach millions upon millions of people with our message to make the impact in other people lives. In the end reaching and exceeding our goal.

By focusing on my WHY this attracts what I want in my life and not to mention the people in my life to make our goal a reality. I can't do it alone.

Our Spotlight is on Jaimie Clout. She is a Aquatics Director in the City of Bristol Connecticut. Jaimie is our Drowning Warrior Weekly Spotlight. As Jaimie is on the front lines of this battle, where we wage war everyday against the epidemic called Drowning. She shares with us, starting at a young age following here dream and desire to save lives. Listen as she also shares about events and lessons that she has learned. We need to find more people like her. If you know someone lift them up so they can make a difference.

These lessons have inspired Jaimie to pursue her passion to work in Aquatics. Working, educating and training lifeguards, not to mention swim instructors, just to be able to give them some real world experiences with stories of real individuals, so they understand the importance of the job that they perform.

She is all about safety to be able to get that message out to the people that she teaches, as they teach and work with children, families, this way they can share tidbits of the stories that she shares.

Jaimie talks about her fear as she was getting started in aquatics that something may go wrong. She faced her fear at a young age, dealt with it and knew that she could make a difference. It takes a very special person with passion along with the sense of purpose of the job to be done. Putting value in the lives of others.

Education and training is what is important to this aquatics director. To be able to give back to her community and even at the State Level.

We talk about the future of water safety and drowning prevention. She shares with us her feelings on how her State of Connecticut is one of the states leading the fight to decrease the number of drownings.  To get the programs about water safety and drowning prevention in the schools, as leaders across the state come together.

She also shares with us at the end about technology as it is coming to the forefront.  Technology will be a great support to what she does as a aquatics director to keep her patrons safe around the water and pool.

She is a rising star and we'll be hearing more from her in the future as she stands up for what has to be done to make a difference. Jaimie is a True Drowning Warrior!

Your not a political pundit going on CNN or FOX so keep it to yourself. Don't turn people off. Your message is too important

Not lifting people-up - Bring people up to the next level or up to your level. They have a message so lift them up as they know people you don't. Their message may resonate with some on your list. It all saves lives

Not seeing the value of what other people have to offer. - Everyone has value that they bring. Just because there message is not the same as yours or they may be saying it differently

How do we feel when people slip through the cracks. This is how I feel every time someone drowns that they have slipped through the crack and I didn't get to them in time or someone else didn't get there. Can you believe it, we are a TOP raked podcast in Norway of all places. We are ranking all around the globe so keep doing what you're doing and sharing our show. We are making an impact. Lets not give up.

I know that we can't talk and get to everyone. However, when we have people leave this space and there are not that many people entering the water safety  & drowning prevention space, we will forever be stuck where we are and people will forever slip through the cracks.

In this episode I'm going to talk or maybe ramble on about just this and other things like your "WHY". That is why you do what it is you do. Is it BIG ENOUGH to keep you in the game to affect people's lives.

Every time someone leaves or drowns I say to myself what could I have done different that would support them so that they would have a different outcome.
