The ASK DR. APPLEwhite Program is hosted by Danita Applewhite PhD CRC (Ret.), a U S Army Veteran, founder/director of White Apple Institute, retired professor of psychology, and certified counselor in the fields of vocational rehabilitation and independent living for over 40 years. Dr. Applewhite experiences disability from both sides of the desk as a professional and as a person with multiple disabilities. The program has been on Blog Talk Radio since 2009 and YouTube since 2018 and is dedicated to exploring the core principles of the disability rights movement. The program was started to address disability discrimination issues faced by adult students, inclusive of military veterans and has evolved to express the needs and challenges of all adults with visible and non-visible disabilities. Encouraged by the feedback of listeners, The Ask DR. APPLEWHITE Program is moving beyond the framework of disability rights and recognizing the need to expand and promote the disability justice movement. The program will delve deeply into the intersectional nature of disability, examining how ableism is intertwined with racism, sexism, politics, law, classism, social economics and other systems of oppression.In collaboration with for-profit and nonprofit organizations, The ASK DR. APPLEWHITE Program has helped thousands "accept the challenge to change the perception of 'dis-abled' to 'differently-abled". The program focuses on a variety of topics that help listeners effectively manage living with disability, including chronic pain, emotional stress, learning and motivation issues, sexuality, and more. HEAR "down to earth”, controversial discussions, and success stories with guests, including professionals in education, counseling, social work, health care (mental and physical), and employment (Human Resources), that will improve performance and success in the workplace and classroom while managing life as a differently-abled person!The ASK DR. APPLEWHITE Program sponsors White Apple Institute, a nonprofit public charity and home of the Differently-Abled Network (DAN). Ninety percent of net proceeds from sponsorships and membership fees are provided to the DAN.
