Beverly Johnson, Supermodel joins Dr. Danita Applewhite, your Host, in a deep conversation about the perception of beauty when we engage with persons who have visible disabilities. Beverly Johnson is an American model, actress, singer, and businesswoman, best known for being the first Black model to appear on the cover of American Vogue in August 1974. This groundbreaking achievement shattered barriers in the fashion industry and redefined beauty standards. Beyond her successful modeling career, Johnson has been a dedicated advocate for various causes, notably Down syndrome. Her niece and a first cousin have Down syndrome, which has fueled her passion for supporting organizations like the Global Down Syndrome Foundation.
She expresses deep appreciation for Dr. Applewhite's work helping her fellow veterans and other underserved persons with visible and non-visible disabilities change their "perception", from disabled to differently-abled, for success in the workforce and higher education.
