The complete power of Drupal is being made available to site builders with ECA, to automate processes and customize Drupal's behaviour (hooks) without programming. With different UI options like the visual BPMN drag & drop interface or a simple form-based configurator, site builders can now tailor Drupal sites and orchestrate automation, which in the past always required a PHP developer or a number of extra modules to help out.

In this session, we walk through a number of fairly complex ECA models that have been built by our team for a customer project. Topics of those models are:

In this video, we've started building the integration module between ECA and Drupal Commerce: https://www.drupal.org/project/eca_commerce

We use the drush code generator for that, and show how to propagate events from commerce and its sub-modules to ECA so that they can be used in the modeller. We also show how to make event related data available to the token system, so that the actions and conditions in the ECA model can make use of them.

The session wasn't going smooth only, we ran into some issues that weren't expected before. But we keep all of it in the video because such scenarios are often great sources for learning how to avoid them or how to resolve them, should it happen to you elsewhere.

Send notification including revision log message for node changes - version 2

In version 2 of this model, we've added content moderation functionality and a section field for a wiki page content type, such that email notifications get sent to different recipients depending on state and section of the updated node.

Update user entity when they save an article node

This model appends a comment to the author of a node when they create a new one or update an existing one.

Grant new user role after 3 conditions are met

This model automatically adds or removes a role from a user, when this gets updated, depending upon 3 conditions that are stored with the user entity. Only if all 3 conditions are met, the role gets added. In all other cases, the role gets removed.

Send email on user registration with field values

In this video, we've built an ECA model to send an email to a user that has just registered on the site. That email contains field values, that the user just provided in the registration form, where one of the fields is mandatory and the other one is optional. The email message is different, depending upon the optional field being filled or not.

Send email to users of a given role

In this video, we've built an ECA model to send an email to all users of a certain role. It contains a view with a contextual filter to limit the list of users to those of the given role.

Scheduled publishing

In this video, we've built an ECA model to automatically publish (and unpublish) nodes in the background when Drupal's cron is running by using a view to receive the list of nodes that are due for being (un-)published.
