In the late 1800s, deep in the Miramichi woods of New Brunswick, a young cook was said to have met a violent end in a remote lumber camp. Soon after, the stillness of the forest was shattered by terrifying, unearthly cries that echoed through the night. The men called it the Dungarvon Whooper, and the legend was born.

But were these chilling screams the restless spirit of a murdered man, a tale spun by lonely lumberjacks, or something older that has always haunted the Canadian wilderness?

In this episode of Down the Crooked Path, we unearth the haunting story of the Dungarvon Whooper: the murder, the folklore, and the echoes that still ring through New Brunswick’s dark woods. 🕯️🌲
