In today’s episode, I interview Patrick Macdonald-King, currently serving on 2 Advisory Boards as well as consulting for a Private Equity Fund.

In 2014, Patrick’s company DAX, Software-as-a-Service cloud offering, was acquired by Prime Focus Technologies. PMK assumed the position of President of the American Region. Been awarded 4 patents for its Digital Dailies®️ technology; and recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture and Sciences with a Primetime Emmy DAX is still the most widely used production asset management and workflow application in the world.

Patrick is a true leader who grew the DAX business from ground zero to over 50,000 users of the software and a successful exit of 15x EBITDA.

Prior to DAX, Patrick was Managing Director of one, and President of another startup companies and in various account management roles working on global brands such as Dodge, Jeep and IBM.

In today’s episode, Patrick and I discuss vendor consolidation and how it changes the landscape for organisations.

With his experienced outlook, Patrick will also tell us about what broadcasters are trying to achieve nowadays and discuss the supply strategies most of them use, pointing out the challenges they face and the future of broadcast and media technology and on the way to revolutionising the industry!

 In today’s episode, I interviewed Marc Baillavoine - Founder and CEO of Quortex, where he is working towards building AI based, self adapted, auto scalable content delivery platforms. Marc graduated as an Engineer from ISEP and started his career as a Video Quality engineer and then focused on growing the R&D team at ATEME. Marc holds 20 patents in the video encoding area.

He  has been responsible for transforming his company from a hardware provider to a fully software-based, virtualized vendor, orchestrating the sales and R&D teams, and contributed to the company IPO.

Marc founded Quortex in 2018, convinced that the business changes in Live TV have to be sustained by a major technological shift that, he believes, the historical actors are unlikely to achieve.

 

In today’s episode, Marc and I discuss how we can decrease the cost for OTT and always put the priority on the user. He also talks about a theoretical world where The Headend could merge with the CDN.

Over the last 25 years, Eric has been active in the Technology, Media and Telecom industries, launching, building, expanding, rationalizing and transforming businesses.

From 2012 to 2016, Eric served as Head of EMEIA - TV and Media at Ericsson, a leading global provider of technology and services and previously,  served as EVP of the Compression Business Line for Ericsson.

Eric was formerly President of EMEIA at TANDBERG Television (now part of Ericsson), which provides award-winning advanced compression systems, and on-demand and content distribution solutions.

Eric holds an MBA from Institut Supérieur de Gestion in Paris and degrees in Economics, Management and International Business from Universities in Tokyo and San Francisco.

In today’s episode, Eric and I discuss the way to  success of small business in Media and Entertainment Tech Industry.

Hello and welcome to the 12th  Episode of DTT Disruptors Podcast…  I’m Dan Addy, founder and Managing Director of DTT Broadcast. In today’s episode, I interviewed Philip Grossman -the Vice President of Solutions Architecture and Engineering for Imagine Communications, a global leader in video infrastructure, advertising systems, and workflow management solutions, where he is responsible for engineering, designing, developing, and managing the Solutions Architecture & Engineering practice to help support customers’ transitions to the next generation broadcast environment.  

He is a graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder with a Bachelor of Science in Civil and Architectural Engineering. After many years working as an engineer, Philip went back to school and received a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Georgia.

Philip is an internationally recognized photographer and cinematographer and is one of only a handful of photographers to have a solo exhibition at the United Nations.

He most recently produced and hosted a one hour Episode of the Discovery Science Channel’s “Mysteries of the Abandoned” called “Chernobyl’s Deadly Secrets” for which he has the distinction of being the first person to fly a Multi-Rotor Drone in Chernobyl Zone of Exclusion as a part of his work in documenting the aftermath of the nuclear catastrophe.

In his free time, Philip is an instrument-rated general aviation pilot and is working towards completing his commercial and multi-engine ratings.

In today’s episode, we discuss the implications of OTT and how is it changing the business models for various broadcasting companies, along with the surge in binge watching which has shaped the kind of content the audience wants in today’s scenario.

In today’s episode, I interviewed Frank Foti - Executive Chairman of the Telos Alliance

Frank has been leading a talented team that researches, designs, and develops innovative and disruptive technology for every form of broadcasting: FM/AM, HD Radio, DAB/DRM, Television, music mastering, streaming, and the cloud.

He is a frequent presenter at NAB (National Association of Broadcasters), AES (Audio Engineering Society), SBE (Society of Broadcast Engineers), state broadcast conventions and writes for all of the major broadcast industry trade publications.

He’s the recipient of the 2013 NAB Radio Engineering Achievement Award.

In an earlier life, he got down and dirty in the trenches of day-to-day radio as Chief Engineer for a number of successful radio stations: WMMS/WHK (Cleveland), KSAN/KNEW (San Francisco), and the most well-known being Z-100, WHTZ-FM in New York City, which he designed and built in 1983.

Outside the world of broadcasting, he is deeply involved in the world of 1/8th scale live steam railroading, as well as building an HO empire in his steam-powered man-cave!

He was a driving force behind Abekas in the 1980s and went on to establish Alpha Image, leading the way during the digital revolution in the early 90s. After selling the business to Dynatech, MC became the Head of European Sales closing multi-million dollar contracts with STAR, ORBIT and Wharf Cable. He then moved to Discreet as Director of Hardware Technology before leaving to set up Post Impressions, a company specialising in developing high performance platforms, in 1999. MC and team formed Emotion Systems in 2010. MC’s strength is his ability to combine his deep understanding of broadcast and post production workflow with his knowledge of the technologies involved to create pragmatic solutions. His ability to then go on and sell those solutions makes his involvement very special. MC and I talk about innovation in technology its impact on operational efficiency and on our industry at large
