The Dubai Wave Podcast is thrilled to bring you the dynamic host of Virgin Radio Dubai's The Ride Home with Brent Black, on the UAE's #1 hit music station. http://virginradiodubai.com/brent-black-bio/ This Indiana native is all the rage here in the gem of the Middle East, and in this in-depth exclusive, he tells how he went from a small town in the American Midwest to become the ultimate Dubai radio pro. (Plus, his pet parrot, Lloyd, makes a suprise cameo :) Don't miss it!
Produced by Dr. Spencer Striker, Digital Media Professor at the American University in Dubai, the show is created with the help of a talented student production team at AUD.
Brent was raised in a tiny Indiana farming town, population 500. At age 17, he enrolled at Indiana University not really sure what he wanted to do in life…but his parents wanted him to pursue a career in law. To pay his way through college, he got a job at a local newspaper. Brent was constantly told by people to do radio including his boss who even told him about a job vacancy for a presenter on Indianapolis rock radio station, WTTS. He auditioned, and somehow had a weekend shift on air within two weeks. Eventually, Brent worked his way to Los Angeles and realized his dream – to do an afternoon drive show in LA…he talked to millions on 104.3 KBIG FM…and couldn’t believe he’d made it. In 2008, when Richard Branson launched Virgin Radio Dubai, a worldwide search for the right presenter led to Brent, who was holed up in LA, looking for adventure.  Two days later Brent was on a plane to Dubai to start work at Virgin. Brent soothes his sexy voice with late night visits to Pinkberry and sometimes double dates with Kris Fade. Enjoy our exclusive hour-long, in-depth conversation with Dubai's iconic radio personality, Brent Black!

Dr. Spencer Striker, Digital Media Professor at the American University in Dubai, has launched a new podcast called Dubai Wave, produced by he and a team of talented AUD students.

For Episode 1, we are thrilled to present Tam Khan, Dubai's preeminent MMA fighter and ambassador of the sport. Khan was born in London but moved to the nearby county of Essex as a youngster. His family lived in an area with few ethnic minorities, and his mother, concerned he would be bullied, encouraged him to get involved in karate and amateur boxing for self-defense. He was also a promising soccer player and amateur body builder. However, a seminal moment came when he read a magazine article about the Gracie brothers and found himself transfixed. He and some friends ordered videos of the brothers in action and spent hours attempting to perform similar moves. Then, in 2000, Khan began studying under Daniel Burzotta, a renowned judo player who had travelled from the United Kingdom to Los Angeles to train in Brazilian jiu-jitsu with the Gracies. Khan has gone on to become Dubai's top MMA fighter and a legendary ambassador for the sport.
