Alpha & Omega’s Only Jah Children, is finally released as originally intended – as two stand-alone mixes – with fresh versions by the space pirate soundcloud.com/tormaindub
Featuring a propulsive bass line, triumphant horns and a tribal rhythm, Only Jah Children was originally released in 1997 on the Dubbed on Planet Skunk compilation. For reasons long forgotten, the two mixes were edited together to create a single track, embarrassingly without the band’s permission :-( Thankfully the original DAT was discovered last year, with this release, mastered by Vibronics, the result.
Formed in the 1980’s and with over 30 studio albums to their name, soundcloud.com/dubmagic are pioneers in the development of the UK dub sound, in part due to their willingness to constantly experiment with new sounds and styles.
Their sound soon spread further than the UK, with Mexico’s Tor.ma in Dub one of the eager recipients. As he writes “they helped create a whole new style and not only in music, but also in movement and a way of feeling the sound waves, creating a sense of community, encouraging dance and meditation. They have a huge fan base and are the inspiration to lots of artists through the years, including of course, myself.”
Tor.ma in Dub’s two new remixes add his psychedelic steppers style to the originals, introducing some new elements and, in his words, bringing “together tradition and modernity, the physical and ethereal worlds, body and mind, roots and infinity.”
