Elizabeth Ann Bayley Seton was the first person born in the United States to be declared a saint. She opened the first American Catholic parish school and established the first American Catholic orphanage. She founded the first native American religious community of women. All this she did in a span of forty-six years while raising her five children.

Holy Saints Series
On his way to combat heresy in Britain, St. Germanus of Auxerre made an overnight stop at Nanterre, France. In the crowd that gathered to hear him speak, Germanus spotted Genevieve, a beautiful 7-year-old girl, and he foresaw her future holiness. When he asked little St. Genevieve if she wanted to dedicate her life to God, she enthusiastically said yes. So he laid hands on her with a blessing, thus launching the spiritual career of one of France’s most admired saints.

Holy Saints Series
Saint Basil believed the Church must remain independent of the emperor and boldly defended the Church. He preached morning and evening to large crowds. When a famine struck, he gave his money to people who were poor. He organized a soup kitchen and served the people himself. Basil even built a town, which included a church, a hospital, and a guesthouse.

Holy Saints Series
Gregory, surnamed the "Theologian" by the Greeks, was born at Nazianz in Cappadocia in 339 A.D. He was one of the "Three Lights of the Church from Cappadocia." To his mother, St. Nonna, is due the foundation for his saintly life as an adult. He was educated at the most famous schools of his time - Caesarea, Alexandria, Athens. At Athens he formed that storied bond of friendship with St. Basil which was still flaming with all the fervor of youthful enthusiasm when he delivered the funeral oration at the grave of his friend in 381.

Third of the Israelite Patriarchs, Jacob is portrayed in Genesis as a strong, thoughtful man, capable of fox-like cunning as well as deep emotion. Like his father, Isaac, and his grandfather Abraham, he made a pact with God who would eventually rename him 'Israel'.
