Today as I reflect on National Indigenous People's Day, I ask what does the recognition and claiming of this day mean. I offer that it doesn't mean anything about the past in a way that connects with the pain of it all. But, that we are now being asked to transmute our pain into super-powers. In the podcast I ask that we focus on three things:
Acknowledge our pain is no longer tide to the things that have happened to us.
Acknowledge our pain is what we've decided to hold on to.
Acknowledge that our pain no longer holds us captive, we are free! Most indigenous people have either been in chains previously, or currently find themselves living under systems that would keep them in bondage. We must found our way out. We must find freedom and liberation.
