Psalm 89 is a key prophecy in the Old Testament referring to Jesus as the Messiah King. It is based on the original promise given to King David in 2 Samuel 7 that God would give him an everlasting Kingdom. This is ultimately fulfilled in Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection.

King David was a central figure in the Old Testament. God actually revealed to him some major details regarding Jesus as the Messiah. In 2 Samuel 7, God tells David that the Messiah will come from his descendants and he will have a kingdom that would last forever. Many Christians misinterpret the Bible because they think prophecy only works in one way. But, the New Testament actually uses Old Testament prophecy in three different ways. If you do not understand how these methods work, you will misunderstand prophecy and not really know how the New Testament author is applying the text to Jesus.
