  • Don't dog your mates | Tommy Herschell on building your "pit crew" & the mates who saved him

This week I'm joined by Tommy Herschell, founder of Find Ya Feet and one of the great storytellers .

Tommy has spent years helping young people, sporting clubs and workplaces have better conversations around mental health, vulnerability and looking after the people around us.

It's a funny, honest and powerful chat that starts with me trying to understand Tommy's slang and hopefully ends with you putting in that phone call to your mate.

    We talk:

    • What Find Ya Feet is all about
    • Why Tommy lives by the motto "Don't dog your mates"
    • The mates who changed Tommy's life and became part of his "pit crew"
    • Whether your therapist should be treated like a mechanic or a panel beater
    • Stories and lessons from Tommy's workshops around Australia
    • Life as a "chalkie" before Find Ya Feet
    • Why making the call to a mate can change everything
    • The power of vulnerability and showing up for the people around you
    • A heads up, this episode discusses some heavy topics, including domestic violence and suicide. Please look after yourself while listening.

              • Tyler Robinson: Life inside the Tactical Operations Unit | DAF Originals

Content warning: This episode covers some pretty heavy stuff, including graphic mentions of suicide, intense experiences from Tyler's time in the force, and a really heartbreaking case involving the death of a child. If you are not in the headspace for this right now, please look after yourself and feel free give one a miss or come back when you're ready. LifeLine Crisis Support is available 24/7 at 13 11 14.

This week on Dyl & Friends I'm joined by Ex-TOU officer, Tyler Robinson. Tyler is a former Tactical Operations Unit officer, breacher, was a part of the riot squad, bike patrol… he’s pretty much done it all in the force.

We chat about what life’s actually like inside the job – the pressure, the adrenaline, and the mateship that keeps you going. Tyler opens up about his time in general duties, moving into TOU, and how things started to take a toll mentally.

He speaks honestly about developing PTSD, feeling let down by the system, and eventually hitting a point where he knew he had to get help. It's raw, real, and a conversation that needs to be heard.

Big thanks to Tyler for coming on and being so open & honest during this chat.

              About Dyl & Friends

              From the publisher's feed

Dylan Buckley spent nine seasons and 41 games in the AFL. Enough time to know that life after football was coming, but not nearly enough time to feel ready for it. So he started a podcast.
