In this quickie poddie today we're going to discuss my time in a mental health facility - it was necessary. It stabilized me. It kept me safe. It gave my nervous system a reset.
---- But it wasn’t the full solution.
In this episode, I talk about why inpatient treatment is more like rehab, not recovery — and why ongoing work matters just as much as the initial intervention. Healing doesn’t happen in a controlled environment forever. Real growth happens when you’re back in real life — managing stress, relationships, routines, and responsibility.
I use the analogy of rehab vs AA: one gets you sober, the other helps you stay that way. We talk about why short-term treatment can’t prepare you for everything, what “your skin is going to hurt” actually means when you re-enter the world, and why long-term support, habits, and mindset are non-negotiable.
This episode is for anyone who’s been through treatment — or loves someone who has — and wonders why things still feel hard after discharge. We must have a plan and work the plan.
