As John Adams, the second US President, once wrote, "A division of the republic into two great parties ... is to be dreaded as the great political evil." Sadly, our current system has proven Adams' warning true, with the presidential election inevitably boiling down to a choice between two strikingly similar parties. While the US political landscape is composed of more than just the Democratic and Republican parties, the two major parties effectively monopolize political power due to our electoral system.
