Pediatric patients are just tiny adults, right? Isn't that what we have always been taught? It is what was taught, but we flatly reject the concept. Why? Because we have seen the reports and results of that flawed logic and the tragic results that follow. For example, if you treat a pediatric patient with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) the same way as you would an adult patient with DKA then you can bet your favorite pair of flight boots that their outcome will suffer.
