E5 - My ADHD Journey - assessment, medications, hacks etc

In true ADHD style, the long-awaited ADHD episode. What a journey it has been with lots of highs, lows and obstacles to get round. In this episode I will take you through what led me to getting an assessment, what happened after I was diagnosed, medications, and hacks I've come up with that help me every day manage symptoms and stop me from feeling overwhelmed.


ADHD in itself is a group of symptoms that have been given a name, I believe everyone is on the spectrum somewhere, and we can't put people into boxes, humans are so much more complex than that, but giving this group of symptoms a name allows us to have a bit more of an overarching view of what's going on and how to help. Not broken and there is nothing wrong with you, everything that you've gone through has led you to be the way that you are for survival, and there are things that we can do to lessen the symptoms and/or become okay with them.


If you do think you've got ADHD talk to your GP, getting the diagnosis wobbled me for a few weeks and made me worse, so I believe it's really important that you have some stable self-care and things that help you regulate before you go through the process. GP should help you put these things in place, but my top tip is to invest in a psychotherapeutic counsellor, it is the one thing (after myself), that has helped me the most in my journey, understand myself and figure out how to help myself.
