The STOP skill stands for stop, take a step back, observe, and proceed mindfully.  The STOP skill helps you to be more assertive and responsive when dealing with distress.  It helps you to train your mind to be less emotionally reactive and impulsive.  The STOP skill is a tool that helps you to get your needs met in a productive way when dealing with conflict and stressful interactions.
