Earth-2.net Presents...

It came down to the wire, but your host Desmond Reddick finally watched enough and read enough and enjoyed enough things to deliver a solid Best of 2023 episode! First off: Happy New Year! Secondly, come with me and listen to me talk about my favorite books, comics, TV shows, movies, and other releases this year while I play some of my favorite music of the year. Enjoy! Will and Skyler celebrate Christmas with the rarely seen 1995 Muppet's Christmas specials Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree. Of course, they also find the time to go off on tangents including old TV listings, Christmas ornaments, and the career trajectory of Robert Downey Jr.

Ho Ho Holy Shit, this movie is violent! This year's Christmas Day special of Dread Media sees Duane and Desmond continuing their Christmas tradition with Joe Begos' rampaging robot Santa film Christmas Bloody Christmas. Then, Desmond goes solo on last year's tame violent Santa movie, Violent Night, and the comic book The Naughty List. Your killer carols: "No Presents for Christmas" by Two Minutes to Late Night, "Bloody Christmas" by Deth Crux, "Because I'm Santa" by The Dollyrots, and "Christmas" by Ulver. Christian, Pandy, and Kelly cap off 2023 by revisiting Tim Burton, Henry Selick, and Danny Elfman's dark-yet-delightful The Nightmare Before Christmas - one of the most celebrated stop-motion and holiday films of all time!

This episode, Ian and Pandy turn their ginger heads towards the versatile behemoth Matt Damon! Their three films covered are amnesiac spy thriller The Bourne Identify, space drama The Martian, and his breakout role in Good Will Hunting. Tune in to find out their thoughts, plus: how did Pandy overcome Damon's difficult-to-rhyme name in a new audio delight? Who brings up Keith Harris and Orville the Duck? And we tackle the ultimate Hollywood question: Matt Damon or Ben Affleck - who's the best?

We're taking a quick break from our quick break to wish everyone a merry merry and also to scratch that completionist itch. With that, we wrap up the most important trilogy of the 21st century with 2017's A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby! (We're super hyped for the prequels.) With that dragon finally slain, we see out 2023 with a Christmas zombie romantic comedy musical and I'm already exhausted just trying to take all of that on board and anyway it's 2017's Anna and the Apocalypse!

This week on the show, a Dread Media favourite, Nicole Cushing returns to talk about her brand new novel The Plastic Priest. Then, Desmond goes solo talking about what he's read and watched lately, namely: Naked Theater and Uncensored Horror: A Memoir by Stuart Gordon, The Boogeyman, Talk to Me, Leave the World Behind, and Men Behind the Sun. All these songs were released this year: "Mothlike" by Myrkur, "Mattel" by Avenged Sevenfold, "Morbid Visions" by Cavalera Conspiracy, and "Jacob's Ladder" by Imperial Triumphant. Taking a break from the official animated canon, Christian, Donovan, and Dan Toland take a U-turn back to 1995 and traverse A Goofy Movie - home to the worst theme park in the country, fiction's greatest pop star, and a surprisingly touching father / son relationship. Along the way, the trio take detours through Goof Troop, the DuckTales reboot, and the Atlanta episode "The Goof Who Sat by the Door."

This week on the show, Desmond and Tom ring in episode 850 with a review of the Ray Harryhausen classic Clash of the Titans, its 2010 remake, and that remake's sequel Wrath of the Titans. Listen to enjoy the sword and sandals epic of it all while playing the game "That's Not Greek Mythology!" Songs included: "Gods" by Sleep Token, "Medusa" by Anthrax, "Release the Kraken" by Clutch, "Thrash of the Titans" by Carnivora, and "Walking with Gods" by Killing Joke. RIP Geordie Walker. In the last proper episode of 2023, Christian, Will, and newcomer-to-the-show Skyler Queen descend upon Home on the Range - one of Disney's last and least-loved traditionally animated films.
