Earth Chats

Sahara Thagunna, host of Earth Chats, delves into renewable energy and off grid living with Rhian Berning, Environmental Scientist and owner of Eco.Atlas.

Some questions answered...

1.  How long have you been living off the grid and what inspired this transition?

2.  What does living off the grid entail and what are a few things people might overlook?

3.  Can explain your energy set up at home? Your family size, appliances and how many solar panels you have/how much energy you use on average? And what back up you have?  What are some struggles you faced when transitioning to off grid living?

4.  I think one thing that holds people back from going off grid is the investment. Would you mind sharing a bit on the money side of things and how much people can expect to invest if they want to go 100% off the grid?

5.  For someone wanting to go off the grid, but isn't really in a place to make the full investment in one go, is it possible to transition one step at a time and make the investment overtime?

Sahara Thagunna chats to Kara Levy, Marketing Officer for PETCO, the South African PET recycling company.

PET plastic bottles are destined for more than spending the rest of time in landfill. When recycled, PET plastic bottles are turned into many new and useful products, like fibre-fill for duvets and pillows, PET trays for fruit, geotextiles, and even brand new bottles. PET is too valuable to be thrown away, so Do 1 Thing. Recycle.

We appeal to all our friends, families and organisations to join hands in taking the pledge against Plastic Pollution.  Plastic pollution has become one of the most pressing environmental issues, as rapidly increasing production of disposable plastic products overwhelms the world’s ability to deal with them. Plastic pollution is most visible in developing Asian and African nations, where garbage collection systems are often inefficient or nonexistent.
