Earth Station Trek

This week we are talking about how Star Trek has addressed mental health issues over the years. How will neurodiversity -- and society's understanding and acceptance of it -- change in the future? Is there a place for everyone, no matter their situation? How does Starfleet address these issues and incorporate persons in these circumstances into its ranks? What roles do Counselors play on a Starship?

But first, we'll get a "This Week in Trek" report from Keith, and then we'll talk briefly about what we learned from the Strange New Worlds screening at Tribeca.

This week we'll be pondering existing and asking the tough questions about belief and spirituality in the Trekverse: What species and individuals in the franchise seem to worship a God or gods? Which are agnostic or atheistic? Does Earth or the Federation seem to take a stand on religion at all? What other species seem to reject religion and spirituality, and which embrace them? Do we think the future of humanity will see religion decrease in time as some shows like "The Orville" claim? And more.

That's the question: "Is Star Trek Dying?" According to Robert Kazinsky, who played Zeph in the Section 31 film, it is -- and he says he's heard that directly from the boss's mouth. So what do we think? Is it true? A couple years ago when we were getting Star Trek for almost a full calendar year, things were looking quite positive. Has that changed? What's the state of fandom now? Has streaming helped or hurt the franchise? If it is true, and Trek really is dying, what's the remedy? What can be done about it? We will answer (as best we can) all these questions and more in tonight's LIVE show. And as always we welcome your questions and insights as well!

This week the EARTH STATION TREK crew discusses filler episodes. According to Alex Kurtzman, the advantage of doing 10 episodes per season in Modern Trek is that you eliminate filler episodes - those that fall in between the classics in order to get your season to its 22 - 26 episode order. But "fillers" have their place too! We'll talk about what each of us considers to be filler eps, some of our favorites from the past, and whether we think (in spite of Kurtzman's feelings) that Modern Trek has fillers too! Join us for what should prove to be a fun topic that'll likely touch upon every Star Trek series.

This week the EARTH STATION TREK crew breaks down the new trailer for Season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds! We're going to feed the data into the Enterprise computer bank and analyze it frame by frame (okay, it may not be that thorough but close to it!). We'll use the information at hand to form an educated hypothesis (i.e. speculate widely) about what is in store in the coming season for Pike and his crew. Definitely join us and let know what you're most looking forward to in Season 3!
