The earthquake in western NC last week was the strongest we’ve had in over 100 years...needless to say, it really shook things up!  We open the conversation on how buildings are designed in the US vs. Japan(10x more quakes) and explain the concept behind base isolation foundations.  Very informative episode, if you want to be in the know, in terms of how we may integrate building techniques being pioneered in other parts of the world.
We had a flurry of great question come in this week, including how to get “instant” hot water on a fixture...not to be confused with hot water “on-demand”.  There’s a big difference!  How to assess vulnerable places in your insulation package....convective and conductive heat transfer are the 2 ways to look at every situation.  Also, do black shingles get hotter that other colors?  Why architects spec out expensive materials not realistic on a budget and lastly, the options when choosing spray foam insulation!
The Carolina Contractor Show covers all things construction and DIY.  Our goal is to cover topics important for homeowners who want to be in the know.  The show is tailored around home maintenance, innovation, seasonal tips and several ways you can save money.  Our slogan is that “We help you get to know your house better.”  Our listener submitted questions are answered each week by host and licensed General Contractor, Donnie Blanchard.
