Both of them were running together but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. What an expression of masculine zeal and joy that these disciples were racing to the open tomb, racing to the resurrection, ultimately racing to Jesus himself. All Christians must think of themselves as spiritual athletes. So run that you may obtain it. You have become spiritual athletes and it's time to be every bit as serious about your spiritual athleticism as you are about your earthly athleticism. So be zealous and learn to channel your zeal and never lose that zeal. Be aggressive. Be a force for the kingdom of God. It is time for the true men of God to begin taking it back, gaining ground, pressing forward as if we were Christians first and foremost. For the ultimate spiritual athlete, the ultimate man is our Lord Jesus Christ himself. He bore the sins of the entire world on his shoulders and broke free from the tomb victorious. Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us looking to Jesus the founder and perfecter of our faith. You need to let go of your sins and lay them on Jesus. You are light, you are fast, you are strong and you press forward after our Lord Jesus with single-minded determination. Let us be athletes in service, in prayer, in wisdom, in zeal and in love. Just like John, we are all racing to the open tomb, racing to the resurrection and racing to our Lord Jesus Christ.
