Today on the podcast I am chatting with Brian K & The Parkway. This DC-based duo has a striking instrumental fusion they dubbed “coastal heartland rock.” Listen in to hear us chat about how Bruce Springsteen and Asbury Park inspired them to start a band, the difficulty of getting some concert tickets, what to expect at their live shows, and more.

About Brian K & The Parkway: Brian Pagels and Russ formed Brian K & The Parkway in 2021. Pagels is from Springsteen’s hometown of Freehold, NJ, Russ is from the Carolinas, both share an innate connection to The Boss and are acutely inspired by him. Although the guys refer to the band name fondly as “very Jersey,” it denotes Pagels‘s name and the fact that The George Washington Memorial Parkway connects the route between their Northern Virginia homes; Pagels lives in Alexandria, Russ lives in Arlington.

Today on the podcast we are featuring the Bristol-based alt-rock band Pollyanna Blue. Learn more about them and listen to their track “Strong Enough.”

About Pollyanna Blue: Pollyanna Blue was formed in the summer of 2019 by Zoe Collins (guitar and vocals) and Rich Earle (Bass and vocals). Their name was inspired by a self-help book ‘Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway’, which talks about a nickname ‘Pollyanna’, typically given to a person who is deemed overly optimistic. That ethos, blended with the waves of difficult emotions life throws at you, creates a concept of musical juxtaposition within the 90s/00s alt-rock atmosphere which sees the now-three-piece wield their self-discovery, vulnerability and love of music to create something authentic and raw to connect with anyone experiencing some type of hardship.

About AlyG: Aly G is the neon hip-hop doppelganger of musician, producer, choreographer, and singer-songwriter Alyson Greenfield, spitting rapid-fire rhymes with equal parts fun, feminism, and fierceness, slaying the mic with quirky, clever raps about gentrification, misogyny, superpowers and ovaries.
Alyson Greenfield is also one-half of POLYVOX, a duo with Joe McGinty (Psychedelic Furs), creator and curator of NYC’s famed Loser’s Lounge. Earning praise from NYC's The Deli, Greenfield was also one of the first five artists chosen to record at Converse’s Rubber Tracks studio in Brooklyn.

In this bonus episode, I’m chatting about the upcoming Bamboozle and Adjacent festivals hitting NJ this spring.

What prompted this episode was my attempt to buy Fall Out Boy tickets and all the live music coming this year, particularly the Adjacent and Bamboozle festivals coming to NJ. I find it odd that these two festivals are two weeks apart and are both being held in Atlantic City, NJ. This was such a coincidence or was it?

Would you spend $350 to $400 on a 2 or 3-day festival?
