This week we talk about Will Smith’s new “health & fitness” journey *eyeroll*. We dig into the idea of “discipline” and how we tie that to the morality of body size and healthism. Then we break down the phrase “out of shape” and try to decide how we feel about the message it conveys. Special tangents featuring Jonah Hill and Lizzo.
In our listener question segment has us tackling some questions from folks about pornography and why “sex addiction” is not a phrase you’ll hear us using much. We also talk a little about how you might navigate porn exposure with the youths.
Episode highlights:
“I hate myself.. And you a little bit.”
“So you’re like a normal human, cool.”
“Bro eat the fuckin’ muffin any time of the day that you want to.”
“The way your body looks does not equal how disciplined you are.”
“We don’t really do solutions here, we just have ideas, okay?”
“And this is something we’re going to do every week--talk about how old Cassie feels because of the age of celebrities.”
“Of course you want to be thin--it’s winning the social lottery!”
“Take that fat body and do all the things you want to do anyway, because if you’re waiting for our culture to say it’s okay, they’re never going to, so do it anyway.”
“It’s complicated--not an addiction though.”
“If you’re not prepared to have conversations with your kids about BDSM porn, then don’t have kids.”
“Parents can not want their kids watching porn and still talk to them about it.”
“There’s a difference between choosing [porn and masturbation] instead of partnered sex & having that in addition to [partnered sex].”
