"Into Your hand I commit my spirit" is a phrase used by Jesus on the cross. But it was used a long time before that by David. In a Psalm about trusting in the Lord through difficulty and persecution, David places himself in God's hands for the sake of YHWH's name. What can we learn from this to help us now?

In Psalm 27 we have another beautiful chiastic structure to help us get to the heart of the Psalmists plea. Watching the Psalmist speak in confidence and in his depth of desire to come into contact with God we realize just how much he is speaking our own hearts as we learn to put our full trust in Him.

This well known Psalm describes God as a Shepherd watching over His flock. But there is so much more than just the words on the surface, the meaning behind the Psalm and it's consistent pointers toward Jesus make it an unfathomable deposit of refreshment and shalom for God's sheep.
