Hoshea comes to the throne in Northern Israel and Assyria lays siege to Samaria and carries the Israelites away into captivity. This is the end of the 10 tribes of Northern Israel. This chapter also gives us an explanation of who the "Samaritans" are in the days of Jesus.

With the ever increasing threat of Assyria looming over Northern Israel in the background, our attention is turned to a new King in Judah (in the South). Ahaz follows on the heels of 4 kings in a row in Judah who are said to be "good" but "he did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord his God" and "walked in the way of the kings of Israel"!

We're back and we are talking about the ending of 2 Kings 15. The unrest of royalty in the North (Israel) is still obvious, while the relative stability of the South (Judah) continues. God keeps making theological points through the reigns of the Kings in these two brother nations.
