The Big Idea: You’ll never find Jesus if you’re looking for a dead man, an inanimate object, a disembodied truth, or an impersonal solution to your problems. Those are all things you might find lying around.

But Jesus is found by the sound of his voice, and your name on his lips, and the sudden recognition that he is alive and giving himself to you.

The Big Idea: To bear witness to the gospel means confessing the violent sacrifice of Jesus as central to your identity as a human being.

The Big Idea: When Jesus speaks to us about our relationships, he speaks from the cross—with the personal authority of someone who has paid for us with his life.

The Big Idea: When the One who is Life climbed onto the dead tree in the place of death and died, he reopened the way to the tree of life.

When he made that cross our tree of life, he was telling us, “Reach out your hand, take of this tree of life, and eat, and live forever.”

The Big Idea: Sin is not just a violation of commandments. It is the vandalism against God’s image that Jesus came to undo.

Every sinner is a humiliating parody of what he was created to be—and it’s only by believing in Jesus that you can be truly and eternally restored.

The Big Idea: Unbelief takes two forms — hostility toward Jesus and indifference to his message. Hostility when Jesus interferes with your worship and indifference when you simply don’t have any use for him.

We are saved because God is not willing to be either hostile or indifferent toward us.
