In this episode, we drill the ONE skill that separates tourists from locals: hearing the bargaining, not just the price.
What you’ll practice:
Bargaining in Chinese isn’t just about money, it’s a social skill. The seller’s tone tells you more than their words. Train your ear, and you’ll negotiate (and connect) like a local.

Three real-life training scenarios, one for every phone call situation you’ll actually face in China:
① Who is calling?
“喂? 请问是哪位?” — This is the first thing you hear on every Chinese phone call. Master this, and you’re already halfway in.
② Taking messages & deliveries
“不好意思, 我现在有点事” — What to say when the person isn’t available. Plus: what to do when 顺丰快递 calls and you’re not home.
③ Bad signal & natural endings
“信号不太好, 请您大声一点好吗?” — What to do when you can’t hear, and how to end a call without it being awkward.
Each section includes listening practice — Jenny says it twice, Mark follows, then the English drops in. By the end, you’ll catch every word, even without seeing the person’s face.

In China, streets don't always come with clear addresses. You hear 往前走, 左转, 右转 — and you have to react in real time. That's today's training.
Jenny and Mark cover three rounds:
• Part 1 — Basic directions: 往前走, 左转, 右转, 掉头. Plus a real conversation: And we cover 过了 (past) and 就 (easy, close).
How to listen for the landmark before the turn. And 远吗? vs 近 — is it far?
What to say when you didn't catch it the first time. Plus 您 (polite you) and 不好意思 (softer than 对不起).
Same training format as last time: Jenny says each phrase twice, Mark follows, then we reveal the English. Listen first, guess, then check yourself.

Numbers are the hardest thing to catch in a new language, they come fast, no context to guess from.
In this episode, Jenny and Mark train your ears in three rounds:
• Part 1 — Prices: 六块一斤, 十二块八, 四十五块九, 九十九块九. We also cover 块 (yuan), 毛 (ten cents), and the trap in 打八折.
Learn 半 (half past), 一刻 (quarter), and 差几分 (minutes to).
How Chinese reads phone numbers, room numbers, and order numbers digit by digit.
Each round uses our new training format: Jenny says it twice, Mark follows, then we reveal the English. Listen first, then check yourself.
