Apathy and empathy go toe-to-toe
The secrets of the universe I long to know
What’s it for? If it’s not all for show?
Biding your time for the final blow
One moment I’m freezing, the next, I’m soaking wet
A sickening obsession, wake from nightmares dripping sweat
My heart will catch up in my chest, familiar story, you know the rest
The silent rage & anger build a hidden volcano erupts at will
I’ll miss the vast open space
And the fresh mountain air
In this stifling situation
With little patience to spare
Summer came & left again, now I’ll watch the colors change
Blowing leaves, soon to be set free, must find the whole thing strange
This impermanence, a graceful dance, that’s stood the test of time
Your beauty and the soul within, a glimpse of the divine
But when the dust settles and we figure all this out
Once our fears cease to meddle, we’ll know what we’re about
I will hold on happily, until I lose the fight
Even the wind will lose the sun, as we drift into the night
I’ll miss the vast open space
And the fresh mountain air
In this stifling situation
With little patience to spare
