Every year - up to US$120 billion of value is lost to the economy in the form of plastic waste. We are talking about millions of tonnes of plastic in landfill, being incinerated or leaking into the environment.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore will contribute to a $5 million Asia climate solutions grant -

This is part of a push to move closer to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The grant will be hosted by a global network for blended finance.

The funding was announced at the inaugural Transition Finance Towards Net Zero Conference. 

The Monetary Authority of Singapore, together with knowledge partners McKinsey & Company and Convergence Blended Finance, hosted the event which sought to bring together key public and private sector stakeholders to mobilise capital at scale to help economies and corporates decarbonise. By the end of the year, the International Sustainability Standards Board is expected to release the new disclosure standards under the widely adopted International Financial Reporting Standards accounting framework.

70% of the top 100 largest listed companies in six Southeast Asian nations – Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam – published climate-related disclosures in 2020/2021. 

BUT - they fall short when it comes to measuring performance and linking them to senior executive salaries. 

That's according to research conducted jointly by the National University of Singapore’s (NUS) Centre for Governance and Sustainability, and non-profit independent standards organisation Global Reporting Initiative.
