In this video I go over ecology, and focus on ecosystems. Ecology is the study of the distribution of living organisms and their interactions with the environment. An ecosystem is the community of living or biotic organisms with their nonliving or abiotic components of their environment. These abiotic components are water, light, temperature, soil, etc, and are linked with the biotic components through nutrient cycles and energy flows - starting with energy from the Sun and transitioning through consumption and breaking down dead matter. The topography, shape, and tilt of the Earth leads to a wide variety of terrestrial biomes, such as tundras, forests, deserts, and rainforests. I list many types of biomes (collection of plants and animals) as well as show images of each type, which are heavily influenced by the temperature and precipitation.
