In this episode, I introduce myself and tell you some stories from my life.

I grew up in Seattle where I learned how to use computers back when msdos and windows 3.1 was the main OS. My elementary school had computers that used those big 5 inch floppy disks.
I helped produce a daily tv show for my high school called tiger tv which included a weekly segment I produced called the Schweitzer mountain snow report.
My first entrepreneurial venture was a skateboard brand in high school called trinity. It didn’t get past the sticker and video phase.
I arrived really late to my typing class final exam but finished before everyone else.
I moved to Los Angeles in 2005 to pursue a skateboarding career. After a lot of partying and a few hard slams I threw in the towel and took a warehouse job at a security hardware distribution company.
I met my wife a few months later. Coincidently I took my worst slam ever that same day and almost broke my neck. I stopped skating handrails after that.
My first ecommerce experience was when I went into $5k of debt because of bad spending habits around 2008 and asked my dad for help. my dad was given a lot of old computers to sell from the company he worked for. I put up Ebay listings and he shipped them to my customers. I paid off all the debt.
In 2010, I took what I learned from selling on eBay like market research and product page optimization, and started looking for suppliers that would drop ship for me so I could start my own site. I met a guy who I partnered with and after some failed attempts, we found a lucrative niche and a solid supplier. I started putting up listings on an eBay alternative called ecrater and made my first sale a month later.
In 2012, I kept selling on eBay when I started taking advantage of returned merchandise that the manufacturer had told me to throw away. I handled returns and realized that I could sell some of the merchandise that was perfectly good. It worked and I sold enough to fund the startup of another skateboard company Beatnik. That company lasted one summer and died out because of lack of sales and funding.
I learned some HTML skills and used Wordpress and woocommerce to build my own ecommerce site and started doing a lot of content marketing with keyword optimization. Our site grew and in 2013, without running any ads, we hit 100k in revenue. In 2014 we did 500k.
In 2014 I tried opening up a brick and mortar store to sell the products. This was a complete failure. I shut it down 6 months later.
In 2015 my wife and I sold the ecommerce business for mid five figures and sold all our stuff to start traveling as nomads.
In 2016 we settled back down in Los Angeles and started a new ecommerce Store. In later 2016 we again sold all our stuff and this time moved to Chiang Mai Thailand. We’ve been traveling ever since and starting new Ecom stores while teaching others how to do the same.
