Bio

Natalie is a two consecutive year technical seminar presenter at the 2011 and 2012 CIQS-AGM; which took place in Jamaica and Newfoundland respectively. Natalie is also the first and only Canadian representative to have ever been accepted as a technical research presenter at the PAQS-AGM; which took place in Hong Kong in June 2014.

As a Chartered Quantity Surveyor and LEED Professional, Natalie links the relationship between Sustainable Development and Green Building Practices in the construction industry to economic growth. Evoking the ideology that real change happens when sustainable infrastructure and green building development, simultaneously contributes to economic growth and the improvement of our standards of living. It is important to recognize the influence that the construction industry has on a country’s economy, and the lives of the people who occupy those buildings every day.

Natalie has been engaged in several construction projects for past eleven years. These projects include a high concentration of high-rise condominium developments in Toronto, a range of retail buildings, custom homes, subdivision developments, LTC facilities, and commercial properties across many cities within Canada, to commercial buildings in St. Vincent, to world renowned hotels in St. Lucia.

In addition to being President of RICS, John Hughes is a founding Partner of Hemson Consulting in Toronto Canada. With more than 40 years of professional experience he directs the firm’s real estate advisory practice which provides a full range of services to both public and private sector clients. Property assessment and municipal tax and taxation policy play a large role in the projects John undertakes.

Jerry Yudelson, PE, MS, MBA, LEED AP, is one of the America’s leading experts on green buildings, and is the Principal of Yudelson Associates.

Jerry is a Registered Professional Engineer in Oregon, and a USGBC LEED AP since 2001. Jerry has an MBA from the University of Oregon, engaged in PhD studies in Environmental Engineering Science at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), and in Graduate Studies as a Rotary Foundation Fellow in Civil Engineering, Technische Hochschule, Aachen, Germany. Jerry has an MS in Environmental Engineering from Harvard University, and a BS in Civil Engineering from Caltech.

Jerry is author of 13 books* on green building, green development, green homes and water conservation. He served on the national board of the USGBC, and was named by the U.S. Green Building Council to the inaugural group of 34 LEED Fellows. In 2011, Wired magazine named him the “Godfather of Green”. As a keynote speaker, Jerry Yudelson has addressed nearly 100 green building, sustainable development and water efficiency conferences in 12 countries since 2006.

As one of the original 10 LEED national faculty members, from 2001 to 2008, Jerry trained more than 3,500 people in the LEED rating system. For the U.S. Green Building Council, from 2004 through 2009, he chaired Greenbuild, the country’s largest green building conference. In 2006, the U.S. General Services Administration named him a “National Peer Professional.”

Jerry is an expert in the LEED green building rating system and provides his clients with expert guidance on creating, developing, designing and certifying green development projects and corporate sustainability programs. He has more than 25 years of experience with renewable energy systems, green building design, environmental remediation and water conservation.

Dr. Peter Simmonds has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and another in Research and Development from Reading Technical College and a Master’s degree from HTS, Den Bosch, The Netherlands and a Ph.D. from T.U. Delft. He has been a member of ASHRAE since 1989.

Dr. Simmonds received the Carter Bronze Medal from the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers in 1993. Dr. Simmonds authored or co-authored more than 60 technical papers, articles and books He is a member of several ASHRAE Technical Committees and serves on the Standards committee as well as the College of Fellows. Dr. Simmonds teaches Graduate and Post Graduate Architectural students at the University of Southern California and is an ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer.

Dr. Simmonds is a recognized authority in the field of Radiant heating and cooling systems, as well as Thermal Comfort. Publications of his work led to the development of radiant systems in the USA and are included in the ASHRAE Handbooks. He has been involved in the design and development of Passive and Active Beams since 1983 and has designed many systems worldwide. Peter is one of the co-authors of the ASHRAE/REHVA Passive and Active Beam Design Guide. He has been involved in the design and operation of tall, super tall, and mega tall buildings around the world for more than 30 years and has authored the new ASHRAE Design Guide for Tall, Mega Tall and Super Tall Building Systems

Our guest this month (December 15th) is Dr. Zoltan Nagy.

In addition to having a really cool first name and being young and accessible, Dr. Nagy is an assistant professor in the Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering at The University of Texas in Austin, directing the Intelligent Environments Laboratory since 2016.

Dr. Nagy also co-founded the award-winning high-tech spin-off Femtotools in 2007, and was member of its board of directors until 2011.
