So, I’ve had three weeks to put this podcast together, and it almost fell apart at the last moment! Yesterday my hard drive died. I just amount managed to recover the most important files (the music for this show) before sitting down to record it this evening. If I hadn’t had these hard drive issues, this would have been an extra special hour long show, on account of the fact I’ve accumulated loads of music over the last few weeks that I wanted to play. In fact, it would have been even more music, if I hadn’t spent most of my spare time since Christmas playing ten year old games on my “new” Sega Dreamcast.

Anyway, some great music in today’s show, kicking off with a unashamed blast of indie-rock (that like the idiot I am I keep calling indie-POP) from THE Allegroes, a ten year old track from The Polysics, and a brilliant track from Major Matt Mason USA. Lots more good stuff besides, even if I do start the show with a weird croaky voice. Welcome to 2011!

2010 is almost over, and so is our countdown of the best tracks of the year, as voted by myself, and the listeners of the podcast.

Fuelled by a glass of port and some Christmas chocolate, we listen to the tracks from number fourteen down to that all important(!) number one. Some great music in here, including at least one track that I had completely forgotten about. I also play two tracks from vinyl, for no reason other than I fancied it. Lots of Scottish bands, lots of indie-pop… but what is that top track of the year?

Is 2010 almost over already? If you’re a long time (long suffering?) listener to the podcast you’ll know that it all began near the start of 2010. During the last year some 150-200 tracks from 2010 have been played so I thought I’d pull together a “best of” list. However, I didn’t want this just to be my favourite tracks, so throughout November we had a poll, and lots of people voted. Actually, lots and lots of people voted! More people voted than listen to the show… hmm…

Anyway, the votes have been counted. The gold envelopes are ready. The champagne is on ice. Get a glass of mulled wine in your hand, and let’s start the festive end-of-year proceedings off with Numbers 30 to 15, in this special hour long super show.

It’s not Christmas! I was going to do a festive playlist, but went a bit “bah humbug” and you get this instead.

A slightly eclectic selection of music in today’s show. We start off with an old track by Tender Trap from their debut album that came out way back in 2002. I like to keep you on your toes, so that’s followed by some Gameboy fun in the shape of “Master Dude”, the title track from Enfant Bastard’s 2010 album.

There’s actually a bit more music than normal – the show is a whopping 45 minutes long! And I admit, there is a nod to the festive season too, with a track off the new single by The Last Battle.

The snow is still here, and my voice still seems to be croaky, but I’m feeling better! So that’s a bonus.

This week I apologise for last weeks podcast. I recorded it in a bit of a rush, I was still a bit under the weather, there were equipment issues, etc, etc. Anyway, this week we might still be under a foot of snow in Edinburgh, but I’m feeling better and playing with some new toys! The music is being played courtesy of a cool iPad app called djay which is great fun. Not that this stops me from making any mistakes. Quite the opposite.

Just a quickie in the shownotes department… I’m choked with the cold today, and peering at my MacBook screen through bleary eyes. Firstly, I should say a Happy Thanksgiving to all the listeners in the US. Today I’m trying out a different audio set-up, so this may either sound brilliant, or terrible. Please let me know if it does… especially the latter.

Anyway, 5 great tracks this week. Yes, only 5. Not because I talk too much… I think they’re just a bit longer than normal. First up is a great track from the debut EP by Edinburgh’s My Tiny Robots. I managed to see them twice in the last week, although I only caught one song at the first gig. The EP is brilliant, and you can be assured I’ll play one or two more tracks from it before the year is out.

The first half of the podcast has a full-on indie pop vibe, culminating in a top pop song from Portugal’s Birds are Indie. There are actually two tracks by Portuguese artists in the show, the second is a bit of post-rock from Luis Costa.

Saving the best for last, I play a track from the wonderful new Yusuf Azak album “Turn on the Long Wire” on Song by Toad records. If I did albums of the week, this would certainly be that. It’s quite special, and quite unlike anything I’ve heard this year.
