Hmmm… The podcast is about to start in 5 minutes and it looks like Bandcamp’s website is down for maintenance. Not a problem for music but I sort of rely on it for the information about the bands and tracks I play on the show. In fact, I 100% rely on it and if it doesn’t come back then the chat is going to be pretty thin on the ground. I suppose it’s not as bad as the bands who rely on it for actually money – that’s probably a bit more annoying.

Hopefully the torrential rain outside the window at Edinburgh Man towers doesn’t get picked up by the microphone on this week’s Tuesday night podcast. It’s been snowy, cold, sunny (for a short while at least), sleety and rainy today. I was supposed to pick up the scooter today from a garage out in the wilds of East Lothian. I decided not to bother. Last time that sort of thing happened it wouldn’t start by the time I did go and pick it up. Hopefully this won’t happen again.

The second podcast of the week! I’m not totally convinced I’ve got this thirty minute podcast thing sorted out – it feels so weird. It’s also a bit strange because it’s the second podcast using my DIY standing podcasting station – which is basically a collection of boxes stacked randomly. At any point the show may abruptly end because I’ve knocked something over in some sort of podcast jenga.

Back when I started this podcast I made it 30 minutes long. Partially because I had no idea what I was doing, but mostly because I thought that 30 minutes was a good length of time for a new music podcast. Over the years it hass grown in size to 45-60 minutes in length for a variety of reasons. However, recently I’ve been listening to lots more podcast during my commute, and I still think there is a sweet spot round about half an hour. So, as an experiment, we’re reverting to 30 minute long podcasts for a few weeks. I don’t want you to feel like you’re being short changed though, so there’ll be two a week! Starting next week. 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

What a day. Today was the day I tried (and loved using) a standing desk. I know, I’m about two years too late to this fad, but now, as I sit (SIT!) at my normally podcasting console I wish I had a standing desk for that too. That said, I’m a bit shattered. I guess standing up for most of the day probably contributed to that somewhat. In fact, I’m really looking forward to lying down.

On the podcast I talk at moderate length about standing desks, porridge (yep) and poo filled soft play areas. If only I’d stuck by my promise last week not to talk much.

It’s the first rambling podcast of the year… and I’m not ready for it. Firstly I couldn’t even find the cables that would allow me to broadcast live. And secondly I had at least four, maybe five, abortive attempts at starting the show. We got there in the end though.

It’s the end of year podcast – the last one of 2014. As such I’m tucking into an array of left over Christmas food and drink, including a nice red ale and the remnants of a cheese selection. All the good cheeses have gone mind you, and I’m stuck with Wensleydale and Cranberry. There’s also a gingerbread house… although that’s been kicking around for a couple of weeks so I suspect it’s not a great idea to start on that.

Anyway, more importantly it’s the second half of the best tracks from 2014 as voted by the listeners of the show. Some fantastic selections in there, and the number one track is absolutely spot on if you ask me.

Throughout the month of December listeners to the podcast have been voting for their five favourites tracks from 2014 that were played on the show. These votes have been counted and crunched and the resulting list will be played over two shows. This is the first one – tracks 50 down to number 25.

Ah, the last regular podcast of the year. And the good news for me is that I can now drink again. To celebrate I’ve cracked open the Aldi Tawny Port (which is rather nice) and pulled together the most chilled out, and slightly festive playlist that I could managed. In fact, I was tidying up this week and found some homemade white “port” lurking at the back of a cupboard in a demijohn. I haven’t tasted it yet, but took a whiff and if nothing else it smells fairly alcoholic. Perhaps next week’s first part of the end-of-year poll may have to be fuelled by this questionable liquid.
