  • Egg London Podcast 008 - Paul C & Paolo Martini
The next installment of the Egg London Podcast features two veterans who have been causing a stir once again recently.
With over 40 years experience in the music industry, Paul C and Paolo Martini have certainly been, seen and done it all. Joining forces in 2009, the Italian duo have worked tirelessly in the studio not only seeing their music supported by many of the industry’s biggest names, but also releasing on labels such as Hot Creations, Area Remote, Terminal M, 100% Pure, AMA Recordings, Great Stuff, Kiara Records and of course, Paul’s Boutique.
We caught up with them ahead of their gig at Egg London on Saturday 22nd February.
Where, how and on what was the mix recorded?
It’s a studio mix done with 2 CDJ Pioneer 2000. It includes some of our own exclusive stuff plus some great tracks by others artists that we really like at the moment
You’ve been production partners since 2009, do you both have a specific role in the studio? Whats your creative process? Any arguments!?
Usually Paul C starts to make some beats and a groove by himself as he’s very good on that and then we build it up the track together, choosing the main elements and all the rest to make sure the track works until we are both satisfied.... we care about all the details, as sometimes a very small element can be elaborated and became a successful main ingredient of the track, making it sound completely different. Today you can do miracles with the technology ... and yes we argue sometimes but at the end we always find a good compromise smiley
2013 was a massive year for you, you were signed to Jamie Jones' Hot Creations imprint and everyone here in the UK has been going crazy for PCPM sound. Any standout moments?
Yes it's true it was a great year for us ... quite a few good things happened, like when our track "We Repeat" on Cecille was chosen as the soundtrack for the official trailer of "Love Family Park 2013" or when "Spunk" on Material reach No. 2 on Beatport Tech house chart, the collaboration with Mousse T on Terminal M, not forgetting the massive support we had from a lot of big DJ's, thanks to all of them! And of course, being signed to Hot Creations was something really special to us.
What is your tried and tested dance floor bomb at the moment?
Quite a lot of the tracks off our forthcoming EP on Hottrax always go down well, and a pair of remixes that we have just finished ...also there's a lot of good music around at the moment like the new single of Joyce Muniz - Back In The Days on Exploited and Tom Flynn - Hoochie on Hot Creations .... both of them are real bombs!
Anything else you'd like to shout about?
We really can't wait to come and play at the EGG on Saturday February 22nd…it’s our first gig together in London and we are very excited about that ....hope to see you all there!

  • Egg London Podcast 007 - Glimpse
With a career spanning well over a decade, Glimpse’ unique sound has shown both his versatility and creativity as a producer. His London roots shine through in his music, constantly pushing boundaries and exploring new ground, with his imaginative blend of house and techno winning support from the likes of Carl Craig, Richie Hawtin and Damian Lazarus.
With releases on labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Aus Music, Leftroom, Planet E and his own imprint, Glimspe Recordings, he has consistently shown his ability as a forward-thinking producer.
Recent work has seen him branch out musically as one half of popular Hotflush duo, Dense & Pika, with numerous shows worldwide and a RA podcast already under their belt.
We sat down with Glimpse after his recent set here at Egg London.
This set was recorded live at Egg London when you recently played here, how was it? How did you find our bespoke Flipside system?
The Flipside Sound system is absolutely incredible and easily one of the best sounds systems in London. It was really great to play on.
You’ve been producing for over a decade now. Who would you say inspired your unique sound?
You go through ups and downs as a producer. Times when it feels easy and times when you feel like you don't know what your doing. My inspiration usually comes from the people around me and the music im listening to at the time.
You have a love for analogue equipment in the studio and the Jupiter and 909 sounds are present on a lot of your productions. Have you had a play with the new Roland digital series yet? The TB-3 and TR-8 units are causing quite a stir at the moment with people digging the additional live / jamming capabilities.
I haven't had a chance to play on the new Roland kit but am interested to have a go for sure.
You’ve released on some heavyweight labels including Aus Music, Hypercolour, Planet E and more. How did the opportunity on Carl Craig’s Planet E come about?
A friend of mine Dean Mushin sent him one of my demos and he signed it.
So you’re one half of Dense & Pika. How did this project come about and how do you differentiate this sound to your solo work?
Me and Alex have been writing music of and on for 10 years now and it seemed like a logical step for both of us as our musical interests are very much aligned.
Your own imprint Glimpse Recordings is coming up to it’s 10th Anniversary. What was your thinking behind starting the label? Was it used as an output for material that other labels weren’t signing at the time?
I've never liked sending my music to other labels maybe scared of rejection. This way I could release my music exactly how and when I wanted. We did the same with dense & pika at the beginning. Just put out a series of 12s and waited to see how they went. This way there is no hype and no bullshit. If the music isn't good enough it won't work. But if it does you know you have something solid and no one can control that apart from you.
Have you got any release news, both personally and for the label?
Release wise I have a Glimpse EP coming out on Aus in a April, a dense & pike EP out in March on Hotflush and a dense & pika remix of Paul Woolfords 'Erotic Discourse' out in March as well.
And finally, anything you’d like to shout about?
Kris Wadsworth & Luke Viberts albums on Hypercolour are ridiculously good and worth buying on vinyl.

  • Egg London Podcast 006 - Pirupa
It’s time for podcast round three, and this time we’ve got someone very special to lay down a mix for us. Pirupa has spent four years grafting in the business, and in that small amount of time, his work has been found and picked up by some of the biggest names in the business. Having worked with everyone from Defected to Noir Music, in his second year in the game, this Italian scarlet was already one of Resident Advisor’s most charted artists of 2010. With tracks like Party Non Stop becoming a winter essential for any clued-up record collector, his mix for Egg was always bound to be something big.

It was specially recorded live from from residency at Output Club here in NYC.
    2) What are your highlights from 2013 so far? Any stand out moments?
Stand out moments for me this year has to be the whole season in Ibiza. All my gigs were great and it felt so good living on the island for the summer.
    3) On NYE you’ll be performing for the first time here at Egg alongside Circoloco favourite Tania Vulcano. You’ve also been a regular fixture at Circoloco over the years do you plan to bring some of that magic to London for The One’s NYE special?
I’m sure it’s going to be a very magical night and I’m very excited about being a part of it.
    4) What can we expect from your set? Any secret weapons or unreleased cuts you plan to drop?
No secret weapons just me! I never know in advance what I will be playing. It’s about the moment, the atmosphere, the people and the vibe.  I will play the music I really really love.
    5) Anything else you’d like to shout about?
My remix for Philippe Quenum is out now. It’s a remix I did for one of his tracks on his album ‘face to face’.  I’ve been playing it a lot lately.
