“Robin, how would you describe the Christmas spirit here?” Robin and Katrin took a two-week break from the Christmas and New Year hustle and bustle and fled to northern Iraq. Kurdistan-Iraq, Iraqi Kurdistan or Bashur: there are many politically ambitious terms for the autonomous Kurdish region in northern Iraq. A great diversity of people live together here. 

We take you on a journey in Kurdistan from the capital Erbil, into the snow-covered mountains to Soran and on to the city of Sulaymaniyya on the border with Iran. From there we head north to Dohuk and the Yazidi sanctuary of Lalish.
