CafeciTO is back with its first roundtable episode. The Central American migrant caravan dominated the headlines all through 2018 and continued to make the headlines up until last month when news of a new caravan emerged mid-January. On February 1st, I sat down with International Relations and LAS student Prachi Singh to talk about why these migrants are leaving the Northern Triangle and how the United States has taken advantage of legal loopholes to make that journey even more difficult.

In 2010, four generations of Haitian-Dominicans were stripped of their Dominican nationality with a single stroke of a pen. For this week's episode, Joan Mella, a fourth year student from the Dominican Republic, explains how the island's brutal dictator, Rafael Trujillo, fabricated an anti-Haitian cultural and historical narrative that continues to dictate Dominican-Haitian relations to this day.

For our latest episode, I sat down with Pedro Melo and Leonardo Cosenza to reflect on the 2018 Brazilian Election and what a Jair Bolsonaro presidency will mean for the country.

Pedro is a fourth year student. He is the president of the Brazilian Student Association (BRASA)and he is doing a double major in International Relations and Latin American studies with a minor in Political Science. Leonardo is the events coordinator for BRASA and he is in his second year, pursuing a specialist in Peace Conflict and Justice Studies.

This will be our last episode for the Fall semester but we will be back in January with more interesting student interviews!
