This season I launch the "radio" format of my recorded works. All music, No talk.
Tom Walbank is a great Blues musician who moved to america from England playing a mean harmonica and went on to pick up the electric guitar and start singing, blowing harp and playing geetar like a bad ass. At one point he traveled to memphis to compete in a national blues competition where he did quite well.
Asie Payton was a blues musician from Mississippi who was discovered by Fat Possum records along side R.L. Burnside,
Former Bostonian Johnny O'Halloran plays guitar and the musical saw with The Awkward Moments, a.k.a., Jimmy Carr and the Awkward Moments.
Jim Cox and I did stuff. He made a great records with the Four Killer Flats. Here we talk about there last, Treasure and Trash. He had me lay down some organ over at Loveland Studios. Its an Alt Country Powerhouse of a record.
A delightful conversation with Samantha Bounkeau, a.k.a. Rogue Violin. An Oberlin trained power house Violist with endless creativity.
The powerhouse of talent known as Matt Cotten joins for Episode 2. A painter, puppeteer, singer and amazing person to call your friend. I filled this episode up with a variety of music that all has Matt in common one way or another. I hope you enjoy this genre-defiant episode.
I think of this as long form dj-ing my life in the recording arts. Pretty much all independent records. I was a sideman, a studio musician, a band leader, a drummer, I even sang in a couple operas when the U of A got a little desperate during their summer session.
So as much as I can I meet up with old bandmates or musicians and rehash those glory days and play the songs I was a part of. In the end, I will curate the 100 ish songs I've gathered, some very well produced, others live and others still just worktapes.
I've never been bound by genres so as you listen, expect the unexpected.
In this precursor episode, I play short segments of recordings demonstrating
all the instruments I play and have recorded with. I thought this would give the potential listener
an slight idea of what to expect from the podcast. As a studio musician, I had to stretch my
musical creativity as needed and as the session demanded.
