Electronic Music Australia (EMA)

After a sneaky trip away, host @ky_mi lost her voice. Total disaster? Not quite. Enter AI Ky Mi – armed with a bizarre accent and questionable inflections, she gave it a red-hot go hosting this week’s show. The robot? Questionable. The music? Absolute fire.

April brought a little bit of everything — from the earthy, emotive tones of Doug Loch and the moody drive of Audent, to sweaty house from Jon Guetano, and prog we can’t quit with Aussie electronic royalty, Cassian. We vibed with the fizzy energy of Loosie Grind, caught ourselves head-nodding to Sam Alfred, and lost it over Brissie's MADFAST DnB heater Kick Me. Sakunera brought us hot after-hours energy, HYPERCONFIDENCE turned up the sparkle, and Villa Dayze had us drifting through another tropical daydream. All in all: a pretty damn good month.

I can't fully explain or understand my sudden and intense interest in dinosaurs. I have realised that most movies etc about dinosaurs are for kids which is disappointing. Where are my adult dinosaur lovers at?

Anyway, ChatGPT says I'm a Therizinosaurus - a chill herbivore with murder-hands hosting a radio show. Classic Ky. Enjoy the show.

March’s Aussential Mix comes courtesy of 27Club – the deeper, darker techno alias of UK-born Adam, who’s been in the game since he was 16. Under his better-known Facade project, he’s released on heavy-hitting labels like Armada, Spinnin’, Discover, and Black Hole, with support from a seriously wide range of A-list DJs.

In 2015, he took things back to his roots and joined the Joof Recordings roster with his track Dystopia, which featured a remix from longtime friend Matt Holliday and picked up a solid underground following. That led to remix opportunities for the likes of The Digital Blonde and John 00 Fleming, plus a stack of original releases and a residency at Dancelovehub in London.

Now based in Sydney, Adam is diving deeper into the 27Club project, bringing moody, progressive techno to the forefront – though a new Facade album is also in the works. His Aussential Mix blends his signature sounds with tracks from LEKTRK, the late great Tomchilla <3, Tophee, and a couple of unreleased IDs – including one with Narel. A proper journey.

1. LEKTRK, Tomchilla - Let's Play (Commonground Mix)
