August has arrived and so the new Atmospheres episode curated by Medulla Oblongata!

Cultivating a long passion for ambient music, Medulla Oblongata is an emerging DJ who blossoms in his musical biotope between atmospheric and hypnotic techno. His hybrid mixes are characterized by a combination of tape samples, droning machine loops, and synthesizers. Together with other friends, Medulla Oblongata founded TRÊVE, a collective and podcast series gathering artists from different horizons around ambient and visual arts.

For this occasion, he put together a mixtape with a precise idea of storytelling in mind: "I recently learned that James Marion Sims became the "father of modern gynecology" performing numerous torture interventions on enslaved women without anesthesia. What suffering could these women have endured? How this historical background has contributed to the current male-dominated practice of obstetrics? As an artist, I'm trying to convey a political message through only instrumental music. From the first track starting with a predatory growl to the final track called "Rebirth" saturated with exploding noise textures, I tried to construct the music of a mental state at death's door, somewhere between a coma caused by suffering and traumatic dissociation".

EMC presents the new chapter of the Atmospheres playlist! Welcome to Eafhm!

Eafhm is the multidisciplinary project by Jorge Echaniz that reflects the evolution of different artistic and exploratory stages. As an interpreter and audio producer, Jorge experiments with a wide variety of musical sequences,seeking the integration of oscillating interpersonal ideas among the variety of solid conceptions. Each interpretation is made to create an atmosphere based on sound art, generative art and Techno in its different variations. Eafhm is also the founder of the record label Secuencias Temporales featuring releases by many renowned artists such as @avsluta, @primalcodemusic, @aionlazura, @saphileaum, etc. Pianos, vocals, ambient recordings, laments, laughter down tempo and breaks combined with deep robust atmospheres and textures. This is what Eafhm put together in this mix: an organic hodgepodge of genres with a slight immersive cinematic touch.

EMC atmospheres presents MARMO

As a collaborative project between @dvka and @marcomaldarella, MARMO was born out of friendship and shared passion for music-making. Starting off respectively as the electric guitarist and singer in a metal band nearly a decade ago, the pair have worked their way through various flavours of electronic music inhabiting someplace between ambient and dance music.

This is the recording of their most recent DJ set, performed at UK festival @abovebelowfestival on the 3rd of June 2023. Through this mix, the duo re-connected after a long time of physical dislocation. MARMO has always been a long-distance musical relationship, and their music constantly serves the purpose of maintaining, nurturing and solidifying friendship.
