    Bio:

FUNK40K is made up of DJ’s Griz & Honey. They began their music careers separately, met in 2001 and got married in 2007. They are both from the New York City suburbs.

Griz has been collecting vinyl and spinning house music since 1994 – he has played events ranging from college house parties, packed nightclubs and international music festivals. He was known as DJ T-All for most of his career and performed alongside Brooklyn’s Mr. Danomyte as the Avenging Disko Godfatherz all over the east coast.

Honey is a classically trained musician and avid collector turned DJ. She has been performing since the age of 7. She began her DJ career in the mid 90’s on college radio and began working in broadcast radio in New York City in 1997. In 2001, Honey met Griz & Danomyte, joined the Avenging Disko Godfatherz and fell in love with Chicago House Music.

In 2007, Griz & Honey relocated to San Diego and began spinning as FUNK40K. They bring a unique blend of New York City club culture achieved from years of… eh-hem… research in the field of body rockin’ beats, coupled with a passion for Chicago thump and West Coast soul. They have an unmatched ability to rock any crowd and drop the perfect record for the moment – their presence and personality is undeniable and has been called infectious and intoxicating.

FUNK40K can be seen weekly on The-Lost-Art.com and at various venues all over the country.

We mix house music using turntables and have been since the mid 90′s.

On this special edition of the Underground Movement Show, we are honored to bring you the world famous and 30 years plus House Music Legend “DJ Onionz”!

Onionz has seen and experienced the dance music culture through it’s many many stages as it developed, progressed and flourished throughout his DJ career. Onionz can be labeled as a one who has stayed in the underground scene as well as being recognized throughout the world in his endeavors.

    BIO:
It’s 1982: the school park is rocking and the early sounds of a young DJ are pumping through the streets. Meet “Onionz”, coming straight out of Queens, NY with a couple of turntables and setting the party off right. Some things seem like they never change but, since the beginning, spinning records for Onionz has always been about transformation, making the room move to where if feels right, weaving rhythms and making them warp and melt without a seam. A complete metamorphosis of not just art, but life… a life lived, relived, and filled with music.

His earliest musical influence came from his dad, Victor Venegas. Victor played upright bass with the kings of Latin Jazz: Mongo Santamaria, Tito Puente and Celia Cruz. Onionz learned to play percussion alongside his father before he was ten, appearing on stage with his father at different times with Candido, Steve Berrios and Paquito DeRivera.

His early gigs were legendary nights (and early mornings) at every NYC hotspot imaginable. When his following became nationwide, there was nothing left to do but take his love for music global. As a fan-favorite and house hero, Onionz continually pushed forward and evolved.

From House to Techno; Breaks to Disco, it’s always been about diversity for Onionz. His time on the road cemented relationships with DJs and producers from city to city as his quest to share music has earned him a passport stamp in 30 different countries. The results of his labor of love and respected relationships have pressed over 100 studio projects and counting.

We welcome Mikey Dubs of Mikro Sound System to the program this week. Mikey gives us sneak previews of various original productions to be released in 2012 during his mix. Previously recording under the guise De Rigueur (On Citrona Records), DRGR (on his own Mikro Sound System label) and as a member of Avatars of Dub (ESL Music, etc.), Mikey in the past focused on downtempo and cinematic chill out music. As Mikey Dubs, he is one of those producers whose constantly tweaking his sound and challenging his audience to follow.

As Mikey Dubs, he originally set out to make straight ahead dubstep but has since expanded his palette to incorporate elements of techno (a long time passion), fragmented house vocals, broken beat and garagy 2 step, wonky synth,8-bit game sounds and frequent nods to 90's IDM, field-recordings and noise, bits of world music he's studied like South Indian Karnatic music and Balinese Gamelan and of course dub in all its mutations.

Luca Bernabei is one of many under the MothLab.net production project umbrella. In NYC for the MothLab New Yorker Tour, Luca comes straight to Altruist Recordings Studiio right after his flight from his home country of Italy. Joined by worldwide manager Romina Carotti on this U.S. visit, she gives us more details into the collective of Mothlab. We are happy to have them on the broadcast and excited to catch their upcoming events in the city.

    MothLab.net

MothLab is a production project developed into the electronic music and visual art sceneries, born to expand the different strengths of its co-founder and partners. A collective of Producers, Musicians, DJs, Video Editors, VJs, Sound Engineers and Web Designers decided to collaborate globally between Italy and New York, working on a unique purpose: the mixed-media arts process. For this reason it can be considered an Italian/American sound and visual growth plan.

MothLab means electronic music and event productions, live djsets, live concerts of electronica bands, real time videos, live vjing, compositing and mapping. MothLab is totally indipendent in art direction, audio/visual installations, graphic and visual design, music and video production, post production and promotion.

MothLab Recordings is the soul and the major goal of MothLab’s contemporary project. It is a digital label based primarily on electronica and dance music, spreading an interconnection between the European background of Techno sounds and new creations from the worldwide and American underground music industry.

MothLab Recordings producers are: Luca Bernabei, Onirika, Bryant Autrey, MAKr.
    You’ll find MothLab Recordings on Beatport, Junodowload, I-Tunes, djshop.de, Amazon, Musicload.de, djdownload.com, djtunes.com
