You can study for tests, and still fail them. If God is your professor, though you might faith the test you can still pass the class!

Though Abraham had two sons, Isaac was the only son of promise. In God asking Abraham to sacrifice his only son promise, God was asking Abraham to give Him what He gave Abraham, not what Abraham was able to maker.

Can God use messy people?

Genesis 20-21

Abraham lived a messy life. Yet God still chose him to be the carrier of the promise.

What upsets God the most?

Genesis 18, 19

God chooses to reveal to Abraham what is to come because He has chosen Abraham to be a blessing and to bless surrounding nations.

God is giving Abraham an opportunity to put into practice his calling.

What would it take for God to get your attention?

Genesis 17

In Genesis 17:3 Abram fell on his face in the presence of God and God talked with him. God promises, again, Abram will be blessed as part of a covenant relationship with Him.

He pledged his life to the Master and then to a way of life.

What does faith look like?

Genesis 16

Abram/Sarai were trying to earn the promise of God through effort. Instead of waiting for what God had promised through grace.

We can’t earn God’s grace. No matter how hard we try. God wants our faith to be in complete trust in him

When was the last time God kept his promise to you?

Genesis 15 finds Abram at a crossroads. Publicly he recognizes God's blessings but privately he doubts.

Sometimes God answers our cries by changing our perspective. Sometimes God waits in order to show His faithfulness.

At the end of the day, God is faithful.

Would you rather have means without purpose or purpose without means?

Genesis 12, 13

Feast and famine are two sides of the same coin. The challenge is not what side the coin lands on, it all depends on what you do with it when you get the coin.

Whether in feast or famine, we must find space to settle. To be content with what has been handed to us.

Engage question: What's next?

Abram is called by God away from family, friends, comforts. From the known to the unknown. God needed to get him away. God was setting Abram up. In a good way. He wanted Abram in a space where Abram had to fully rely on God.

Abraham didn’t know all the details. He just followed the one who had called him.

You don’t need to know everything when you're with someone you trust.
