Episode Description:
Cancer immunotherapy is everywhere right now — headlines, social media, news clips — and it’s often described as if it’s one single treatment that simply “activates your immune system.”
But that oversimplification causes a lot of confusion.
The truth is, cancer immunotherapy is not one thing. It’s a broad category of very different approaches that work in very different ways — and whether one helps or does nothing depends heavily on the biology of the tumor.
To help clear that up, Dr. Jay Chaplin just released a new video and blog post that focuses on the actual biology behind immunotherapy, including:
- the difference between T-cell–based therapies and NK-cell–based therapies
- why some immunotherapies can create long-lasting responses while others cannot
- and why a statement like “this works for all cancers” is always a warning sign
This is foundational information that rarely gets explained clearly — but it’s essential for understanding how newer cancer treatments actually work.
