Hey hey! I can not believe we’ve made it to the end of Season 10. It’s still a little surreal to realize I’ve been doing this for 10 seasons. Thank you SO much to everyone who has continued to support and taken us to over 8000 downloads…next year we will hit 10k for sure! 

This season is filled with amazing leaders that really want what’s best for their communities and are working hard to spread the word, raise funds, and create a lasting impact. 

Non Profit Stat: “Black and Latino CEOs/EDs are especially underrepresented at the executive level. They’re also more likely to lead the smallest organizations—as measured by annual expenses—than large ones.”

As we get ready to end the year and jump into the holiday season, I’m so thankful for another season of elevating the stories of Latinas who are doing amazing things for their communities. I hope you all find time to rest and pour into yourselves mentally during this season. 

I’ll be coming back in the new year with season 11, and a whole calendar of events for us. I’ll also be opening the doors next week for the Showing Up Latina - in Business cohort for Jan, feb, and march. 

I’m working with some jefas this quarter to close out the year strong, and we will be continuing to set ourselves up for a strong first quarter. So don’t miss out the next cohort so you can have some accountability and strategy for your business goals.

Tabitha Nieto is the Executive Director of the COR Community Foundation. She has been a Certified Hypnotherapist for over ten years, a Women's Coach, and an experienced Facilitator for women. She is trauma-trained, having spent hundreds of hours studying Complex and Developmental Trauma, advanced leadership development, and group facilitation courses. 

She is an experienced workshop facilitator trained to support others through deep emotional explorations. She’s also has worked alongside hundreds of women and has participated in, facilitated, or produced dozens of in-person and online events through various corporations, COR Community Foundation, and her own business. She combines all her healing modalities to support her clients in reclaiming their power and living more fully using her SLOW Care Framework.   

Previously, Tabitha held a successful, six-figure "Corporate America" career inside a sprawling, male-dominated Fortune 500 organization. She left this during the pandemic to explore a deeper connection to her life, heart, and body, heal her past, and share her journey with women who want the same.

Tabitha is of mixed race and proudly identifies with her Colombian and Latina roots. She also acknowledges the racism and white supremacy that have shaped our country and is committed to continuing her work and raising her voice.

Sarah Taylor was born and raised on the Southside of Chicago as a first generation American. In 2012, Sarah established Yo Soy Ella Inc., a nonprofit organization with the purpose of providing visibility to the importance of women’s mental wellness. 

As the Founder and Executive Director, Sarah saw the necessity for women of color to seek health equity, feel connected and informed in the discussion of what has always been silenced, particularly within systematically marginalized communities of color, Mental Health. 

As a mental wellness professional, Sarah strives to advance how communities of color normalize conversations of mental wellness while validating the need for care, treatment, safety, and accessibility. Providing a culturally competent support system that empowers women to reclaim their internal and external identities through mental and spiritual awareness is how this Afro-Latina Panamanian identifies as a change-maker, the one who tried to inform change.

She has overcome the challenges of being a first-generation, low-income Latina mother to make significant strides in the academic sector. With a B.A. in Political Science from NEIU and an M.A. in Women & Gender Studies from Loyola, she's currently pursuing a PhD in Higher Education. Her commitment to eliminating racial, ethnic, and economic inequalities in education and beyond is deeply rooted in her Guatemalan background and experiences growing up in a single-mother home. As the founder of the Fempreneur Poder Hub, Jennifer empowers women of color in entrepreneurship, providing education, resources, referrals, and support networks. Her bilingual proficiency and expertise in post-secondary education and institutional engagement, position her as a leader in advocating for equitable opportunities and systemic change.

Today I’m talking with Juliana Rubio Slager. She co-founded Ballet 5:8 in 2012 and is known for her unique ability to engage audiences in discussions of life and faith through choreography. 

She has created over 50 works for the Company and School during her tenure at Ballet 5:8. She has had the privilege of working daily at the School of Ballet 5:8 and has guest taught at over 100 schools across the United States. In 2023 Rubio Slager was awarded the coveted position of National Visiting Fellow at the School of American Ballet.

Ballet 5:8 tours nationally, bringing her critically acclaimed ballets such as Reckless, Butterfly, The Space in Between and BareFace to audiences across the nation. 

Julianna Rubio Slager is a groundbreaking figure within the field, as one of the few Mexican American Artistic Directors and Resident Choreographers of professional ballet companies in the world. She hopes that her leadership and creative work at Ballet 5:8 will pave the way for other women and under-represented artists in professional ballet.
