Tonight is the Chicago Elevator Association Christmas which I’m looking forward to attending. ome of you listen each and every week, some simply visit the website to view the content online and others take a moment to send an email or tell me in person that they give me credit for doing what I do.  Today I give you all thanks for being part of my “elevator” family.  I can think of no other profession I’d rather be doing or industry I’d rather be part of.  I’m grateful for the wonderful friendships I’ve been lucky enough to have made over the years and I wouldn’t trade them for the world.  So thank you for being a part of this awesome ride. Safe travels to all who are heading away from home for Thanksgiving.  We all have so much to be thankful for that one day is not enough to remember this.

This week’s show proves that when stalled in an elevator its best not to take your frustration out on the elevator itself or you’re going to have a big bill to pay. Also an elevator technician in Canada shares the myths of movies and does a pretty good job. One week until my favorite holidays is fast approaching; almost time to give thanks for our friends, family and this industry.

I’m still feeling a bit under the weather and know some recent travel has not helped.  The good news is that there are no accidents relating to elevators, escalators or moving walkways on the program today.  This Saturday is Veterans Day so remember to thank a Vet for serving our country. You might see them at the grocery store; they might have a hat on which shows where they served.  Walk up to them, look them in the eyes, offer your hand out and as you shake there’s thank them for serving.   Freedom is not free and many have sacrificed more than any of us know to ensure we continue to have this unalienable right.

Good to be back although I could have used a couple extra hours of sleep, at least that’s what my body is telling me. The show is packed with articles and at least two of which I’m certain are being discussed on the job and between coworkers and for good reason.  I’ll talk more about that on today but want to leave you with this. Safety in our industry falls on each one of us. When accidents happen it is easy to point the finger at who is to blame but we are ultimately responsible for one person, ourselves.

On the program today we talk about the top ten best jobs in Canada, learn where Perak is and cover and reflect on widening the perspective on the footprint we make in our industry and world.  Things that might actually make you scratch your head and think a bit.  Maybe even enough to start a conversation with your helper, coworker, spouse or children.  In addition I asked the question, why are experts stating that elevators installed today have a 10-15 year life expectancy before needing to be replaced.  Those of you who are in Germany at the Interlift (http://www.interlift.de/en/home.html) show, pace yourself. Germans only have 31 days to celebrate Oktoberfest and take advantage of each one of them to do so.

I want to personally thank everyone who wrote me last week letting me know I was not alone in what I attempt to do each week.  I was blown away by everyone who took the time to write, call and send me text messages.  On top of all of those I was lucky enough to attend the NAESA Wisconsin Elevator Symposium last week and only for a day but it was great to talk with so many friends whom I haven’t seen in a while.  While I was only able to attend one day it was great to see the turn out the event received.  Today’s show is light on news but heavy on appreciation.
